One of the most senior US officials in the Pacific has refused to rule out military action against Solomon Islands if it were to allow China to establish a military base there, saying that the security deal between the countries presented “potential regional security implications” for the US and other allies.
Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, was part of a high-level US delegation to the Pacific country last week.
He said the US team, which also included the National Security Council coordinator for Indo-Pacific affairs, Kurt Campbell, had a 90-minute “constructive and candid” meeting with prime minister Manasseh Sogavare in which the US team detailed concerns about its recently signed security deal with China.
Temper tantrums and invasion threats over Solomon Islands deal with China will push Pacific allies away Read more “We wanted to outline for our friends in the Solomons, what our concerns are,” said Kritenbrink. “Prime minister Sogavare indicated that in the Solomon Islands’ view, the agreement they’ve concluded has solely domestic implications. But we’ve made clear that there are potential regional security implications of the agreement not just for ourselves, but for allies and partners across the region.”

Nice sovereignty you have there... shame if something happened to it.
WTH are these people thinking?....seriously.
...But its bad if Russia does something similar.
With what…the woke storm troopers?
Please tell Putin it’s okay now about that Ukraine thing.
Military action like the kind Russia has taken to deal with a national security threat in Ukraine?
Russia is supporting China on this as to annoy us.
To be a constant contrarian, what business is it of the United States? Yes, I can understand the geopolitical ramifications of China militarizing the Solomon Islands, but how can we in one breath say that something happening 3600 miles from us is a red-line that cannot be crossed while at the same time denying Russia the right to intervene on its own borders?
Also don’t be surprised if Chinese and Russian forces show up there.
How about no one has bases like this?
Why won’t the U.S. get on board with that?
There are knuckleheads here who cannot understand what you just said. That space in their brain does not comprehend it. T
Australia feels like it is a direct threat against them, and
they are pretty animate about it.
They’ve seen wars crop up in the region before, and don’t
want it to come to that.
China is expanding as far as it can before it meets with
major objection.
Sooner or later, this is something we’re going to have to
man up to and face.
As for the nation that invited China in, that’s the group
I can’t figure out. They have no idea what China has
planned for them?
Shaking head...
LOL. I thought that the zones of influence are so 19th century and everybody is free to choose their alliances. Or maybe it only applies to Europe but then they need to explain why.
Who cares what Australia thinks? Ukraine didn’t think well when it applied to NATO as well. I thought you did not support the consequences...
I’ve noticed for some time now we are in a multipolar world with emergimg powers China, India, and others.
Now we have nuclear powers U.S., India, China, Russia, etc, and the all want their own “Monroe Doctrine.”
Wouldn’t it be nice to have Russia as an ally instead?
But that can’t happen because the US deep state bet all their chips on trying to surround and control Russia.
Dear Xi:
Your Australian iron ore shipments are on hold....
Well, if you wish to give up the only ally we have in the
region, there’s no real need for me to respond.
You’ve already done enough damage to yourself.
