IndyCar, Indianapolis 500 announce plans to go green

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are going green.

Penske Entertainment, the parent company of the series, announced Friday it will start implementing more eco-friendly plans starting with next month’s Indianapolis 500. The race is scheduled for May 29.

All tires delivered to the speedway also will be relayed by electric vehicles and all electricity consumed at the speedway this May will be purchased through 100% renewable energy credits. Race organizers say fans also can offset their carbon footprint by donating to the GreenTrees reforestation project, something the speedway will support financially.

Other initiatives to be adopted this May include expanded recycling and food recovery programs and a retail store inside an electric truck where every item sold will be reusable or designed from recycled plastic.

Long-term plans by IndyCar announced on Earth Day include expanded use of the guayule rubber tire and using transporters that use renewable fuel.

They should just park the drivers in one of these simulators and they could really go green!

Why don’t just use pedal cars in the race so we don’t use those nasty gasoline engines????

Aint enough greenwash to cover what they are attempting to hide.

...Firestone is the only tire supplier for IndyCar; it manufactures 28,000 Firestone Firehawk tires in its workshop in Akron, Ohio. Each tire is handmade, and the right front differs from the left front, while the right back differs from the left back. Harrigle says there are 68 different specifications for tires for the 2016 race season, and Firestone will always bring a few test tires to each event for the week’s practice. Each Indy team will go through approximately 200 sets of tires: 52 for road courses (primary and alternate compound), 60 sets for street courses, 36 sets at the Indianapolis 500, 43 oval sets and six sets of rain tires.

“That’s the reason a U.N. food expert recently called agrofuels a “crime against humanity.” Lester Brown of the Earth Policy Institute says that biofuels pit the 800 million people with cars against the 800 million people with hunger problems.”

These corporate loonies have come up with a bunch of absolutely trivial feel-good nostrums that will have ZERO EFFECT on anything. I absolutely HATE virtue-signaling.

Does anybody believe these trivialities will make any difference in anything? Does anybody actually buy these stupid corporate efforts to buy some public goodwill?

If they were serious, they would cancel the race forever. In fact, ALL car, boat and airplane races should be cancelled. What's the point of all those gas-guzzling vehicles traveling hundreds or thousands of miles each to arrive back where they started? Is a more stupid use of earth-destroying fossil fuels possible?

We need a gray, bleak, boring, no-fun world to save the world. When finally nobody is happy the liberals can be happy. Welcome to Liberal World...
