TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida House of Representatives on Thursday gave final passage to a bill that would dissolve Walt Disney World’s private government, handing Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis a victory in his feud with the entertainment giant over its opposition to a measure that critics have dubbed the “ Don’t Say Gay ” law.
The move could have huge tax implications for Disney, whose series of theme parks have transformed Orlando into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and serves to further sour the relationship between the Republican-led government and a major political player in the state.
For DeSantis, the attack on Disney is his latest salvo in a culture war waged over policies involving race, gender and the coronavirus, battles that have made him one of the most popular GOP politicians in the country and a likely 2024 presidential candidate.

“Disney will fight this tooth & nail, hammer & claw, all the way to the Florida Supreme Court and perhaps even to the SCOTUS.”
It’s going to be hard to argue: “It’s unconstitutional to deny us special treatment!”
Excellent news. Next stop, getting rid of Disney’s outrageous exemptions to copyright laws.
They can fight, but they can’t win....
They let a small vocal set of idiots in their company dictate their actions... and now, they get to pay the price, literally for their stupidity.
There should be no special treatment for any company. Good for the governor! If he wants to run for president I’m all for it.
Disney as a whole has been on decline for a long time... they have been promoting the sexualization of children for at least 2 decades, only difference is now they have come right out and admitted it....
Disney was allowed to be ‘self governing’???
Who knew that?
How is granting them that status even legally possible? why was it asked for? And who granted it?
AssPress can’t help but use the LEFT’s terminology of “Don’t Say G...”, which amply demonstrates what side they favor!
Have you noticed the media has repeatedly referred to the bill by the Democrat terminology? It’s the Parental Rights in Education bill. They never call it that. And to give themselves pathetic cover, they will say “opponents calls it…”.
Excellent point.
Leftist slant/propaganda at it’s finest.
liberals have been yelling for years that big oil, big pharma big insurance, big banks, big airlines, big healthcare should not get tax breaks. so this should be just fine with them....
They’ll claim they depended on those allowances and made decisions based on the deal. Should have had a 25 or 50 year sunset in the first place, if you even gave it to them.
Walt would vomit.
He won’t veto. He’s actually been pushing the bill. He’s not Noem.
“Wasn’t the bill eliminating all such districts?”
sorta ... it’s phrased in a general fashion, but only Disney has a district that meets the bill’s requirements for revocation ...
They can hire all the lawyers they want, but I don’t think the courts are going to care about the legislature revoking special districts that the legislature created. Disney is going to have to come up with a hell of a convoluted legal argument to make that seem like something that the courts have any jursidiction over.
“If DeSantis vetoes, a serious deep stater is outed.”
desantis is the driver behind the bill and is the one who added it at the last second to the legislature’s special session agenda ...
“Actually I thought he was pushing the legislature for it.”
he is ...
