One of the Russian Navy's most important warships is either floating abandoned or at the bottom of the Black Sea, a massive blow to a military struggling against Ukrainian resistance 50 days into Vladimir Putin's invasion of his neighbor.
Russian sailors have evacuated the guided-missile cruiser Moskva, the flagship of its Black Sea fleet, after a fire that detonated ammunition aboard, Russian state media reported Wednesday.
State media outlets TASS and RIA, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, said the Moskva had been seriously damaged in the incident and that the cause of the fire was being investigated. The Russian reports gave no information on possible casualties.
But hours earlier, a Ukrainian official claimed the Russian warship had been hit by cruise missiles fired from Ukraine.
Due to large storms over the Black Sea obscuring satellite imagery and sensory satellite data, CNN has not been able to visually confirm the ship has been hit or its current status, but analysts noted that a fire on board such a ship can lead to a catastrophic explosion that could sink it.
Whatever the reason for the fire, the analysts say it strikes hard at the heart of the Russian navy as well as national pride, comparable to the US Navy losing a battleship during World War II or an aircraft carrier today.

Bad Vlad is having a combo -—>>> Meltdown and conniption fit. I sure hope he doesn’t bust a calcified artery. For sure Vlad is on high pressure meds and F ‘im. The devil is awaiting his arrival.
Um, it’s been confirmed by everyone. What is the lie?

Well, to be fair - if a few missiles were fired at a ship, and soon afterwards a mysterious fire broke out on that ship...
Seems like a 2 + 2 = 4 kind of assumption, enough to at least give the benefit of the doubt.
It's a conundrum.
Not to be morbid but I expect to see pictures or video of the ship either on fire, or of the damage, with the crew in life rafts etc.
Right now, we are being told that there were a few missiles sent at the ship, and a mysterious fire onboard.
It is not a huge leap to go from missile impact to onboard fire. But in today’s environment of congenital liars on all sides...unedited video is necessary to confirm.
Now just a cotton pickin’ minit here. Let’s be fair. CNN does have as much credibility as a beauty salon gossip circle in a small town.
The key word in CNN's disclaimer is 'visually.' They can find confirmation easily from Russian news, but because CNN doesn't have someone on site with eyes on, they say they can't confirm. But there is no doubt because Russia has confirmed something amiss with their own ship and they have no reason to do so. In this way, CNN is coloring the news by sewing doubt. And that's why they can't be trusted.
Especially since that looks like a rather poor model of a battleship.
It isn’t sunk. It was evacuated and is getting towed to port.
The 3rd option is the US gave the Ukrainians a little help aiming their weapons.
Russians: Ammunition just kind of blew up...like on that other ship.
Observer: you mean the one that Ukraine hit with a guided rocket artillery.
It would make for interesting theater for the Moskva to be towed to Sevastopol only to be sunk under a hail of Ukrainian missiles at the harbor’s entrance.
It’s all over but the scene of the Ukrainian tractor, towing the ship.
Pentagon says it’s headed to port on it’s own power.
Could very well be a faulty missile on board. Or a combo of both, and crappy damage control (something the US Navy excels at, not so much Russia or China).
The US Navy should sink it. It should put the Black Sea Fleet amd Baltic sea fleet on the bottom of tje sea. And let’s sink the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Chinese Navy too. Those carriers need to see ocean bottom.

Hey great idea!

Russian news (RIA) is now reporting that it sunk, while being towed:

“MOSCOW, April 14 - RIA Novosti. The missile cruiser “Moskva”, which was damaged due to the detonation of ammunition, sank during towing, the Defense Ministry said.
“During the towing of the Moskva cruiser to the port of destination, due to damage to the hull received during the fire from the detonation of ammunition, the ship lost stability. In the conditions of stormy seas, the ship sank,” the military department said.
On the night of April 14, the Ministry of Defense reported that a fire had started on the Moskva cruiser, causing the ammunition to detonate. The crew was completely evacuated. At the same time, the main missile armament was not damaged, the source of ignition was localized and the ship remained buoyant.”
