According to Israeli sources, the Ukrainians got the Russians chasing their version of an AWAC (control plane).
They then lured them in, unaware thr battery was hidden in the middle of no where — not a logical location since it defended nothing.
But the Ukrainians weren’t defending. They were attacking.

Maybe “it got sunk” as in “he got drunk”?

Regardless of why is sunk, this goes to show that a ship isn’t self sufficient. It needs others to also help protect it, just like a tank. It also shows that ships may not be the best bet for war machines.

To add: also it did not help that the ship had a regular pattered patrol route.

Ship’s complement 510 sailors. Ship reportedly “rolled over.” If so, bodes ill for rescue.

Scuttle butt that it was a air launched anti-ship missile donated by a NATO County.

did the Russian ship even try to fight back?I don't know, but I got a great deal on a Russian ship based missile defense system on Ebay.
Say, can any Freepers read Cyrillic? I've got a few varmints in the backyard I need to take care of.

As one USN sailor to another, I hope to hell our brass here is watching these engagements very closely. I'm sure that half of them are naval-gazing (no pun intended), wondering about gender pronouns and 'white supremacy' -- the other half should be taking note. Seems that missiles both man-carried and crew-serviced are proving that a lot of tech that was fearsome in the old days nothing more than flaming steel death-traps. Ground armor, sea vessels, aircraft... all of it.
Our ships have taken a few hits over the decades, and countering this ever-increasing threat is getting tougher and tougher as missiles get smarter and faster.
What's the answer? DEWs? Drone swarms? Nothing stands out.

Apparently, the Russians aren't well versed in combined arms tactics, on land or at sea.

Why are those helicopters flying so close to each other? Won’t their rotors collide and kill them both? Or is it photoshop?

But The Hague will be a radioactive wasteland, so hard to have trials. But I would look for a retaliation that seriously hurts Ukraine. It’s getting bad out there these days. Hope you have your beans and rice. Shoot we might need them just for getting through the coming depression.

Your post #13 is funny. We all need to remember Biden gave Putin a green light on the Ukraine invasion.

2 Neptune missiles against a missile cruiser. That’s a lot of Russian state hardware deep sixed. The Russians might think about putting into port. The Neptune is the latest in anti ship technology with harpoons on the way.

No it’s the event that Nikes we used.

Probably the compression effect of a zoom lens and they aren’t as close together as they seem.
