Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appears to be cementing his stance as a prominent Republican leader ahead of 2024 as other red states mimic the Sunshine State's policies.
DeSantis has been leading the charge on several GOP priorities, including the coronavirus pandemic, critical race theory and LGBTQ issues.
"He's obviously the most high-profile Republican governor in the country," Brad Coker, the director at Mason-Dixon Polling and Strategy in Florida, told Newsweek. "No one else has his level of national coverage, and he's the center of attention in Florida."
The Florida leader was one of the first in the nation to begin reopening their economies, prompting other Republican officials to follow suit. Not only did DeSantis reopen his state earlier than other areas, but he also pushed back hard on mask mandates and vaccine passports. Last year, DeSantis ordered mask requirements in schools be banned—an action taken by Texas officials not long after.

Leadership, I like that
I love Trump. I find myself thinking that in 2024 DeSantis may be a better candidate. He’s significantly younger and seems very very solid. Need to keep my eye on him.
I wish Trump would support DeSantis in 2024 for the Presidency, attend rallys with him, fundraise for him, really get behind DeSantis.
But, with Trump’s ego, not gonna happen.
DeSantis would be infinitely better than Trump. DeSanis’ people are lock step with his vision and help him carry it out. Trump hired (and endorses) people who did nothing but undermine his agenda and hasn’t learned a damn thing from it.
How is he helping to expel RINOs by endorsing them?
“But, with Trump’s ego, not gonna happen.”
Yep, Trump is the first and only male with an ego.
I suppose you think a limp-wristed Biden is the ultimate choice. You confuse leadership with ego.
Trump made DeSantis’s election possible.
Back in 2015 there were plenty of posters on this site who had a hatred for Trump. They would bend over backwards and lie just to rationalize their hatred.
Looks like they are all coming back.
After Trump made another horrible endorsement of Dr. Oz in my state of Pennsylvania, I will not support Trump in the primary.
I will support DeSantis.
“DeSanis’ people are lock step with his vision and help him carry it out. Trump hired (and endorses) people who did nothing but undermine his agenda and hasn’t learned a damn thing from it.”
Desantis built a grassroots army, starting right here in Volusia County, FL. And elected reps love him and follow his lead.
His support group is gigantic, staffed with true believers in Freedom and Individual Liberty.
Big fan here, from Volusia. Put up many a sign back when he was just a Founding Member of the House Freedom Caucus.
He’s the real deal.
Trump had no political organization and follwer nase in Congress. He took what he could, but he was crippled by personnel.
Not his fault. R’s schemed against him from the start. Blacklisted anyone supporting him. Sent spies and saboteurs.
And still he prevailed.

Trump endorsed DeSantis, but DeSantis made his credentials and popularity on his own.
Trump was a great president, but he is also human and pointing out weaknesses is important, not hating. Hero worshipping Trump regardless of his errors does not help him or the country.
Can’t imagine Trump wanting DeSantis to leave as the governor of his home state, to do battle in the unfinished business Trump went to DC to do..
Trump and the Deplorables were robbed.
And DeSantis wouldnt have any more success in DC sewer than Trump did.
The DC sewer is a lot harsher than the Florida swamp
There appears to be one free state in the Banana Republic.
And it’s not because Trump lives there. He fled NY like many..
It’s because of the governor in Florida.
A leader that I would argue is not needed in DC.
He’s needed to make sure there is one free state that people like Trump, Americans, can flee to.
DeSantis hires the right people to talk about and implement his agenda.
That said, I hated is intemperate comments and juvenile tweets and his compulsion to make political enemies unnecessarily. Way too many cringeworthy moments.
I know Republicans who say they will not vote for him again (and this includes close relatives who do not make idle statements).
I sincerely believe that Trump will help his legacy by supporting and promoting a political ally (such as DeSantis) who would be an effective chief executive at a time when our fine Country is vulnerable to "progressive change".

I could vote for a DeSantis/Abbott ticket.
Who is asking DeSantis for his endorsement, Disillusioned Huckabee Supporter?
NO ONE.
"Ron DeSantis won by just 32,463 votes out of 8,220,494 cast.If that's not enough perspective, let me spell it out for you anti-Trumpers in crayon: DeSantis barely beat a down-low, no-good, hopped-up jive meth addict by 0.4%. You all think about that a loooong time.
DeSantis lost nearly ALL the Florida metros, from Rush's mansion all the way down to Key Largo, and got beat down in Orlando."
You need to re-read that thread, I was referring to another freeper, explaining why he was commenting as he did.
