On Ukraine, the neo-isolationists of the right are fighting the last war.
[cut]
It is certainly true that Bush administration foreign policy became much too idealistic, bordering on otherworldly, over time. That doesn’t mean that, in reaction, we need to jettison all moral discernment in foreign affairs. Yes, Ukraine is a corrupt and ramshackle democracy, but there can be no doubt about its superiority to Vladimir Putin’s venal dictatorship, or about Russia’s culpability for launching a hideous war of aggression.
To say otherwise is to ignore all the relevant distinctions in this conflict — between who is the aggressor and who is the defender, who hates the West and who wants to join it, who gave up their nukes decades ago and who is making nuclear threats, and by the way, who has been winning against the odds and whose vaunted military machine has been repeatedly embarrassed.
In seeking to avoid the mistake of 2003, the restrainers are making their own mistake of 2022.

If a pundit like Lowry feels a need to make a statement like this, he’s already lost the argument because he has no credibility.
Iraq War cheerleaders pushing for U.S. intervention in Ukraine are like 500-pound slobs peddling weight loss secrets.
LOL, suck it!
"Neo-isolationist," how precious.
;>)
“That doesn’t mean that, in reaction, we need to jettison all moral discernment in foreign affairs.”
Neocons just love their moralistic and hyperbolic foreign policy.
Even though it’s hypocritical and contrary to the best interests of the American people.
Americans are easy to manipulate with these inane moralisms.
There’s dozens of ‘em here on Free Republic.
“We cannot stand by when people are killed.”
12 year old girls everywhere agree with you.
The Ukraine ‘cookie jar’ is held by Putin to serve Biden
Both wars are exactly same. We are more broke than ever. Our national debt is now bigger than our GDP. And debt is rising faster than delivery of a Jimmy John’s sandwich. Iraq war mushroomed our debt.
Every bullet we send to Ukraine adds to more debt. We are not rich enough to pay off national debt. It is insane to get involved in foreign wars when broke.
RUSSIAN NAZI’S have infiltrated their military & population!

INFORMATION:
The RNU [Russian Nazis] was founded in October 1990. At the peak of its popularity in 1999, RNU was estimated to have 100,000 active members all over Russia. Members wear black and camouflage uniforms; the group adopted a red and white modified swastika emblem, openly expressed admiration for German national socialism and publicly celebrated the rise of the Nazis.
In 2014, when the war in Donbas started, RNU members joined pro-Russian forces in Ukraine. Evan a telephone conversation of Barkashov and a local Donetsk activist Boitsov was intercepted.
Barkashov stated to Boitsov:”He could call off the referendum on independence of the territory. Barkashov said that it is not necessary to perform referendum the legit way. He said,” that in the end no one would care about it. All that Boitsov has to do is to write whatever he finds suitable. If he wants, he can say that 99% of people voted for joining Russia.”
Internet lately is finally presenting material showing RUSSIAN nationalists – EXTREMISTS and NEO-NAZIS – THAT HAVE BEEN CONINUALLY fighting in the Eastern Ukraine FOR the separatists and AGAINST the Ukrainian army.
Alexei Milchakov deserves special attention who came from the neo-Nazi St. Petersburg organization “Rusich” and in Donbas. The separatists’ poster presents Milchakov as “The pride and the glory of Russia”. His organization created the “People’s Army of Donbas.”
Milchakov leads the terrorist group, fighting in Donbas. On June 29, 2015, he posted pictures of Ukrainian prisoners of war with mutilated faces. Another picture, made near Luhansk in Sept 2014, shows an ear, cut off from a Ukrainian soldier.
Milchakov’s ID was issued by so called “Luhansk People’s Republic”. As can be seen from this document, Milchakov belongs to Neo-Nazi terrorist group “Rusich.”
On March 22, 2017, Makariev was declared an international wanted man according to Russian law enforcement agencies, this head of the People’s Army of Donbas is now in hiding somewhere in the territory of Donbas. His deputy Vladimir Belov was abducted by separatists’ police through Russian orders and handed to Russian police. He is now in a cell of the pre-trial detention center in Moscow.
You need to read some books about the Eastern Front.
It's a so-called Republican who assists the Democrats with their actions.
Bich Lowry fills the bill there.
A globalist is someone who isn't fighting the globalists. Silence means assent.
"Dick" Lowry fills the bill there.
Neocons still celebrate ChimpBush's invasion of Iraq, even after all is revealed.
Little Richie, again.
Important for each of us to enlarge our base of knowledge.
Ukraine has oil and natural gas. And not just in Galicia, where my grandfather was in the oil business.
Just make sure that you don’t end up knowing so much that isn’t so.
You are kind to be concerned for me, as I am for you as well.
That is what being a true freeper is.
Despite all the bickering and “you’re a commie/you’re a nazi” nonsense, this is the only quote that matters:
“who gave up their nukes decades ago and who is making nuclear threats,”
The dumbest thing Ukraine did is giving up their nukes. This war would not be happening if they had been smart and kept them.
Every country around the globe is observing this and the smart ones are learning the lesson: get nukes, never give them up.
The world is about to become a far more dangerous place as this lesson sinks in.
Nothing else matters more than this lesson out of the Russia/Ukraine conflict.
This war is about OIL & Gas Reserves.
https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4050958/posts
The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country. Russia gets 60% of its revenues from oil exports. Europe gets 40% of their oil from Russia.
In 2012 massive oil and gas reserves were found in Crimea. Crimea signed a $10 billion exploration contracts with Shell and Chevron to develop the new found oil and gas fields. These oil and gas products would compete in Europe with Russia’s oil and gas, reducing Russia’s oil revenues, which we recall amount to 60% of their total GDP. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, cancelling the contracts with Shell and Chevron.
But Ukraine still had massive reserves in, you guessed it, Donetsk and Luhansk, and other areas East of the Dnieper River. In 2019, Energy Secretary Rick Perry visited Ukraine, and soon after Ukraine awarded exploration contracts to a consortium of U.S. oil companies. Again, these oil reserves would compete in Europe with Russian oil, so Putin is invading Ukraine to shut down this latest attempt to extract Ukrainian oil and sell it in competition with Russian oil.
This explanation makes more sense to me than the “Putin feels threatened by NATO expansion” excuses for the invasion.

If the Ukes allow some small region in the west to be its own republic, but the OIL belongs to Ukraine, do ya think Pootypoot would allow that? Nope.
TRUE Putin knows about the Major Natural Resources Of Ukraine:
The natural resources of Ukraine can be divided into three main groups; energy resource, metal ores, and non-metal ores.
Although it accounts for only 0.4% and 0.8% of the Earth’s land surface and world’s population respectively, the country has approximately 5% of the WORLD’S mineral resources. Over 20,000 deposits of 194 known minerals can be found in Ukraine. Of these deposits discovered, 7,800 deposits of over 90 hold important industrial minerals.
Ukraine has one of the leading reserves and extraction of MANGANESE, iron, and non-metallic raw material.
The country also has the LARGEST URANIUM deposit in Europe and accounts for 1.8% of the world’s uranium deposit. The proven reserves contain estimated 45,600 tons of uranium. Ukraine has 300 deposits of graphite, containing more than 1 billion tons or 20% of the world’s graphite. Only China has more graphite reserves (26% of the total world’s graphite reserve).
Putin wants the mines!
The mineral wealth of the area remains the same strategic prize that Adolf Hitler recognized during WWII.
1-Particularly Donbas, leads Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores, ranking seventh in the world overall. It ranks second in titanium ore reserves in Europe, second worldwide in explored reserves of manganese ores, and second in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves.
[Natural uranium and low-enriched uranium can be used as fuel for power generation nuclear reactors, research reactors, military plutonium production, and naval propulsion reactors. Highly enriched uranium can power naval propulsion, military plutonium and tritium production reactors, and act as feedstock for nuclear weapons production.]
2-Titanium alloys are some of the most common metals used in military applications for everything from aircraft parts to missile housings, armor plating, naval ship and spacecraft construction. Many more civil applications contribute to demand as well.
3-Manganese ores are vital to steel production, corrosion-resistant aluminum and copper alloys, battery cathodes, and nutritional supplements. Mercury ores are valuable in applications including munition fuzes, missile and space guidance system gyroscopes, infrared detection and lighting.
PUTIN ASSUMING FULL CONTROL OF THESE ASSETS is an obvious shortcut to exploit Ukraine infrastructure in the Donets Coal Basin won’t be the work of a moment for Russia. But assuming full control of these assets is an obvious start.
PLUS, He wants to keep Crimea.
Other major resources include mercury (2% of the world, 30,000 tons, ranking it 5th after Spain, China, Algeria, and Kyrgyzstan), potash salt, gold, building material, ornamental stones, and hydropower resources.

OFFSHORE
“Just prior to the collapse of the Yanukovych government [PUTIN’S PUPPET], Ukraine was very close to signing a $735 million production-sharing agreement with ExxonMobil and Royal Dutch Shell.
The deal would have seen two wells drilled off the southwest coast of Crimea in the Skifska area. The operators were optimistic that even though no drilling had taken place in this block, a recent natural gas discovery in the Romanian part of the Black Sea could be a harbinger of economic reserves in the Skifska licence.
Going back further, in 2012, the two companies along with Romania’s OMV Petrom and Ukraine’s state-owned Nadra Ukrainy were picked to spend between $10 and $12 billion to develop the Skifska field which is projected to have reserves of between 7 and 8.8 Tcf and would have produced about 175 Bcf per year over a 50 year production sharing deal, REDUCING UKRAINE’S VERY HEAVY DEPENDENCE ON IMPORTED GAS FROM THECLUTCHES RUSSIA.
Not surprisingly, the deal was contested by Russia’s Lukoil.
SO, ExxonMobil announced in early March 2014 that further activity on its Skifska license were on hold until the illegitimate annexation of Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine was resolved.”
