Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban scored a fourth consecutive landslide win in Sunday's election, as voters endorsed his ambition of a conservative, "illiberal" state and shrugged off concerns over Budapest's close ties with Moscow.
Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine had appeared to upend Orban's campaign in recent weeks, forcing him into awkward manouvering to explain decade-old cosy business relations with President Vladimir Putin.
But he mounted a successful campaign to persuade his Fidesz party's core electorate that the six-party opposition alliance of Peter Marki-Zay promising to mend ties with the European Union could lead the country into war, an accusation the opposition denied.
Surrounded by leading party members, a triumphant Orban, 58, said Sunday's victory came against all odds.
"We have scored a victory so big, that it can be seen even from the Moon," he said. "We have defended Hungary's sovereignty and freedom."
Preliminary results with about 98% of national party list votes counted showed Orban's Fidesz party leading with 53.1% of votes versus 35% for Marki-Zay's opposition alliance. Fidesz was also winning 88 of 106 single-member constituencies.

I love foreshadowing.
Great news!
Let the nationalist wave begin.
The Eastern European countries will continue to align with Russia since the EU is bent on destorying their cultures.
Where is the proof that Hungary is aligned with Putin?
Globohomo is not happy that a nationalist is keeping them at bay from destroying another nation and people.
“Where is the proof that Hungary is aligned with Putin?”
Stuff like this:
Also, Orban is against starting WW3 over Ukraine.
Mark my words:
By Wednesday at the latest they’ll be calling Orban a Nazi.

I don’t think Hungary is allied with anybody but Hungary.
I was there 5 or 6 years ago. I thought Budapest was wonderful, but it needed a bit of work because of Soviet era neglect. Modern Russia, on the other hand, is a different matter.
I love these places and hope that I can go back someday.
“Also, Orban is against starting WW3 over Ukraine.”
So am I.
Orban is the best world leader today, and it’s not even close.
Has the border crisis been solved? I thought you said we should only post on that issue? Why are you spending your time on Hungarian politics?
This “rooters” article is clearly bad journalism. If you asked a Hungarian supporter of Orban on the street why he won, they would likely give a dozen popular reasons, none of which were in this article, because the journalist never bothered to do that.
I wonder how the Russian sanctions work with this country
(Where is the proof that Hungary is aligned with Putin?)
There is none. Orban was on Tucker Carlson. He’s pro-family, pro-freedom, Putin’s worst nightmare. Reuters and NYT are lying like usual.
Putin wants to crush rising democracies in Eastern Europe before they grow stronger. That is why Russia invaded Ukraine under Biden (but not under Trump).
Orban may have had warm relations with Putin but he is not a supporter of the war, nor is he aligned with Putin in his atrocity. Orban is for Hungary and preserving Hungary’s culture.
According to the latest US MSM narrative, Orban is “pro-Putin.”
“By Wednesday at the latest they’ll be calling Orban a Nazi.”
Well, we do know that Soros helped the Nazis in WW2. What was Orban doing, and can he prove he had nothing to do with the Holocaust?
Here's my prediction: rising street protests and urban violence, staged outrages against homosexuals for media, a large wave of illegal migrants that will need to be pushed away, intense media coverage - in sum, destabilization and color revolution.
