3. Product of the USA Meat
Beef and Pork can be raised and slaughtered in Australia, New Zealand, Uruguay, Brazil, China, etc…
It’s then shipped over here to be cut into your supermarket steaks, roasts and burgers…
And legally labeled as “Product of the USA!”
Sad, but true.
Those cattle and pigs didn’t breath a single breath of United States air to merit this status. But shoppers will never know the difference.
A Stone Barns Center report says 75-80% of all “USA” grass-fed beef sold online or in grocery stores is imported from overseas.
It is shocking that United States label regulations allow this.
But in some ways, the next one is even crazier!

This is why I only go to my local wet meat market (dance club)
and drink only the Russian Vodka..
Texas Longhorn raised on Kentucky Bluegrass. Delicious.
So, this is saying grass-fed beef is more likely to be from overseas?
I’ve wondered why my Publix beef label makes a point lately of saying ‘grown, manufactured and distributed’ in the United States
I believe this is true
I am cool with New Zealand lamb. The other stuff is worrisome. Zachy chicken is from California
China imports about 80% of its beef and 60% of its pork.
They aren’t shipping any here.
The other countries raise and slaughter good beef and pork.
I get my meat from a local butcher who sources from area farms, and if I go there at certain times I can actually see live animals being unloaded at the door of the slaughter area. I realize however, that there are a great many people who don’t have this luxury, and I feel for them, not less because there is no comparison between fresh local meat and supermarket meat.
I think they've bought out a lot of meat producers in this country, so there's no need to pay to ship it back to China, slaughter it, and return it to the U.>S.
I get all of my beef and pork from a local farm - I pick it up once a month - I see the cows and hogs, I know where mine comes from.
I buy my beef from my vet’s ranch. It’s local as local can be. Half a calf is so good and I know where it was raised and butchered. I’m going to start doing the same with my pork and getting ready to raise my own chickens. God Bless Texas.
I get my cheeseburgers 🍔 from only local McDonald’s, so......
Your fine, upstanding congress critter passed a law that permits this calumny; and received a fat manila envelope of cash over the office door transom in return. Just like here in Pennsyltucky where they allow meat products to be injected with a certain percentage of water, to inflate the profits of the processors.
Bonus - Chinese beef come with eggroll.
The grass-fed beef at my local Safeway is clearly labeled “Product of Australia”, and is good and cheaper.
Not if I go to my local beef seller pick out the cow or pig I want. He handles it all
I really don’t understand why so many Americans don’t support “COOL” regulations.
“Country Of Origin Labelling”, for those in Rio Linda...
it would be extremely improbably to have beef coming from China.
We have several local farms and ranches that sell direct. One guy advertises on TV wearing a ivory handled Colt in a fancy cross draw rig.
I live on grass fed beef. I raise my own, on my pasture, and our local meat markets are supplied locally. I know the people that raise, slaughter, process, and retail it to the public.
I live in Hawaii on the edge of one of the largest private cattle ranches in America, thus I have an advantage.
You city guys really don’t know what you are getting.
Except for the “Shaft”.
