Washington state plans to ban most non-electric vehicles by 2030, according to a newly signed bill by Gov. Jay Inslee. The bill says that all vehicles of the model year 2030 or later that are sold, purchased, or registered in the state must be electric. “On or before December 31, 2023, the interagency electric vehicle coordinating council … shall complete a scoping plan for achieving the 2030 target,” it reads.
The bill covers a lot of transportation issues in the state and is a part of a larger $16.9 billion transportation package called “Move Ahead Washington,” which Inslee described as a way to create more efficient transportation options.
“Transportation is our state’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. There is no way to talk about climate change without talking about transportation,” Inslee said. “This package will move us away from the transportation system our grandparents imagined and towards the transportation system our grandchildren dream of.”
Also included in the transportation package is funding for four new hybrid-electric ferries, thousands of electric vehicle charging stations, 25 transit electrification projects across the state, as well as free fares for riders 18 and younger on public transportation systems, according to a Medium post the governor wrote on Friday.

Just doing a little math. A 12-pump convenience store in a busy location can pump gas into 50 or 60 cars in an hour.
With a 25 minute recharge time (minimum), EV’s will take at least 25 chargers to charge 50 cars an hour.
So, take every gas station and add 25 more spaces, at minimum. Plus, for now you can’t reduce the number of gas pumps, since ICE vehicles will continue to make up the majority of vehicles until at least the mid 30’s.
It’s going to eat up a lot of real estate.
That's what it is going to be like. The "new" normal. The only new ICE vehicles that automakers will bother to make will be luxury models like the Corvette. Otherwise, there's a nice new model of Model 3 you can buy. It's going to be priced out so that the average American won't be able to afford it. We'll be like Cubans so our vehicles will continue to age but we'll put more money into maintaining them. The average age of an American car is now 12.1 years and at least 25% of our vehicles are at least 16 years old.

There will be some decent careers in auto repair for young folks not afraid to work with their hands.
There will have to be exceptions for vintage vehicles, or people will tar and feather government officials. I have a vintage 1966 vehicle, runs okay on unleaded gas because of hardened valves and valve seats. Easy to maintain the non-electronic engine, unlike vehicles made today. Government enjoys taking away the pleasures of life from us.

That couldn’t happen. The electric power grid is nowhere
near robust enough to make that possible. I don’t think
that many electric cars could be produced yearly to handle
the need for new vehicles.
When you look at the global carbon dioxide emissions slice
of the atmospheric pie, you find that it is growing very
very slowly. It grows per year something like 20
parts per billion, and even that may be an exageration
due to my reading about it a while back. I may not be
using the correct time frame. It may grow that much over
a few years.
The drastic measures we are taking are not warranted. And
if you look at China’s incredibly bad pollution numbers,
it’s ridiculous the U. S. should have to shoulder the
reduction of green house gases, while China does as it
pleases.
Even if the 420 parts per billion were to triple, it
would not be a catastrophic event.

True. I should have added New York City to the mix, since the rest of the State, and where I live is majority red, but I'll sacrifice my own State to better the Union, since New York chose to hold out on validating the U.S. Constitution after the Revolutionary War ended.
If the situation is a real emergency, why not eliminate them in 2023? Isn’t it “criminal” to wait?

Yep. The Democrats in Washington State will realize that they were too ambitious so they will give everyone time to trade in their ICE vehicles. A "grace period" of one year? Perhaps. 7.5 years is a long time from now. But it's gradual. By 2025 or 2026, you will see dealerships in Washington State only offer electric vehicles. Same thing in California.
Idiots they are. When an electric vehicle is economic I will buy one. Oddly I can see a use for such for as an short range vehicle if the price was economic. Go to the grocery store for a few things in my short range electric vehicle makes sense.
There is no substitute for my RAM 1500 which will go 500 miles and tow a few thousands of pounds behind it.
