But it also most likely prevented Stalin from being overthrown in a coup.
Well Hunter Thompson’s corpse was shot out of a cannon as his last wish.
There has been too much "warrior" and not enough "middle manager" analysis of what is happening in Ukraine. The evidence about maintenance, upgrades and spending that is INSIDE Russia is paperwork showing everything was done properly. Russia's military must send all of its worst equipment forward, so that the Ukrainians will destroy the evidence.
Firing generals in the US Army was very common in WW II, usually for lack of aggressiveness. This also happened a couple of times in Korea.
After that - nothing. Even the debacle in Kabul (where any man of honor would have resigned) - everybody’s good, man!
Firing ineffective generals doesn’t mean you are losing. It means you are serious about winning.
I doubt these guys go on to lucrative TV gigs like they do here.

Agreed—it also means you are paying close attention to what is happening on the ground.
Adjusting tactics to real world conditions is what winners do.
“Moreover it is clear that in most cases they have been fighting a collection of militia using opportunistic guerilla tactics, for which the Russians were unprepared. They could push a column up a highway but behind them the enemy still was active.
Its not just that they werent using infantry, its that they have far too few infantry to counter this sort of enemy, where they need to control terrain to protect their lines of communication.”
Yup, and it’s about to get worse for the Russians as American, British, and Canadian veterans with actual combat experience go to Ukraine to help out. They’ll get the Ukes trained on NATO tactics and proven combat skills and the Russians will then face a force multiplier effect as the Ukes take what little they have and use it ever more effectively.
What I am waiting for (assuming it hasn’t already happened) is for the Ukrainian side to start hitting targets inside Russia and Belarus. That’s where the soft targets are and that’s going to be the best ROI for the Ukes as they employ unconventional forces.

I kill you last.
Shhh! OpSec!

And president Lincoln said, “this General Grant, he can fight.”
“Because he was successful in TN, Sec. Stanton send him some good TN bourbon on me.”

B Clinton fired or saw the forced resignation of at least 52 generals
Yeah, I wanted to do that with my Aunt Dorothy’s-—she tried to make me eat mayonnaise when I was little-—never forgave her. I still might dig her up if the wrong combo of likker and attitude intersect.

I say Hillary did it. Billy was too busy with his intern.
Opps - now the US can point to mistakes, but only if they are not racist, sexist or other new LGBT SJW words of approbation. And we all know that certain areas are settled science and cannot be challenged.
