Alec Baldwin responded to the lawsuits seeking to hold him accountable for last year’s fatal shooting on the set of the indie western Rust, claiming he is being targeted because he is wealthy.
The Boss Baby and Saturday Night Live star made the comments during a public event at the Boulder International Film Festival in Colorado on Saturday.
“What you have is a certain group of people, litigants and whatever, on whatever side, who their attitude is, ‘well the people who likely seem negligent have no money and the people who have money are not negligent,’ ” Baldwin said, according to video footage obtained by CNN.
Baldwin appeared to be alluding to the movie’s head armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and assistant director Dave Halls, who are believed to be the last two individuals to handle the firearm before it was given to Baldwin.
“So we have people that are suing people that they think are deep-pockets litigants,” Alec Baldwin added. “Why sue people if you’re not going to get money? That’s what you’re doing it for.”
Baldwin is facing a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was was killed after the gun Baldwin was holding discharged on the New Mexico set of the movie Rust last year. The actor has maintained his innocence throughout the case, claiming he didn’t pull the trigger.

He’s probably right about that. Sucks to be him.
Deep pockets and the fact you shot two people killing one of them 🤪
And probably because he was the producer or the movie, and held and fired the pistol. And never attended the safety meetings. Probably those things also to one degree or another.
Not for long.
It’s because he pulled the trigger.
Frankly, I'd rather see you in prison for 20 years.
No doubt he was goofing around with her. Its hard enough to hit a person with a handgun with one shot much less kill them outright. If one drew a cone from the muzzle to the distance from the victim, not exceeding a 45 degree angle, I’d bet <1% of the endpoints would be on the victim and 10% of that would be body mass. He was pointing right at her. Had to be.
Who pulled a loaded firearm, pointed it at a woman, pulled the trigger, and killed her? No Alec, I don’t think you committed negligence? I think you committed murder.
He is a part owner of the movie production company. Yeah,
he was going to be named. He pulled the trigger. Not sure
why he thinks that’s solely related to deep pockets.
The local DA hasn’t seemed to move with sterling speed on
this one.
I would think charges would have been handed down within a
week or two. They could have been augmented later.
It doesn’t seem right that it has been this long, and they
are still frittering around.
I’m judging Baldwin like I would anyone else in this situation.
This is a tragedy. I’m not glad Baldwin is involved. He
was. This is how it works.
I hope there is adequate discovery of exactly what did
happen, and that Baldwin gets no more or no less than what
the next guy would have received in punishment.
Whatever you say, Karen.
“Deep pockets and the fact you shot two people killing one of them 🤪”
This. In this case Iam glad they are suing him.
As a minor point, I think it is developing that he will claim he pulled back the hammer and let it go before it locked into trigger control. I think that is how he is now saying that he never pulled the trigger, an otherwise absurd assertion.
I don’t care if he gets sued, or why.
I certainly care about whether he is charged with a crime or not.
If he didn’t think he was so damn smart, maybe he would have taken firearms safety a little more seriously.
Honestly I am surprised he has not moved all his assets into florida realestate and stfu
but since he thinks he is one of the 2 victims I guess what he is doing makes sense to him
Oh, there will be a foreign production company owned by a tax haven sitused trust that will receive his future income; it being the easiest to protect.
Yeah, there’s really no smoking gun connecting him to the case, oh wait.....
