Russia’s chaotic and confusing invasion of Ukraine is baffling military analysts
CNBC ^ | 04-MAR-2022 | Holly Ellyatt

One week into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and military analysts are united on one front, at least: Russia’s invasion has not gone entirely to plan, looking disorganized, uncoordinated and sluggish to observers.

...

“It’s going to be worse than what the Russians had in Afghanistan, that’s what the Ukrainians are going to do,” he added, alluding to the then Soviet Union’s drawn-out, bloody, costly and unpopular invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 that lasted 10 years and led to the loss of around 15,000 Soviet soldiers.

...

Russia has not been able to swiftly achieve its military objectives, he said, because “the Russians are not nearly as well trained as they think they are or as we thought they were, they’re not nearly as well equipped,” he said.

Quick decapitation effort failed...so now its likely to be a long fight with cities leveled as Putin has a history of not holding back the bombing of civilian ares for humanitarian reasons.

“Most probably just want to grow their potatoes, raise a family and not get killed in the latest regional urination competitions. One puppet govt is as good as another. Usually very few people think war is as great as the planners and profiteers do”.

141 countries in the UN General Assembly, vote overwhelmingly to condemn Russia, and demand that Moscow immediately withdraw its forces. Five countries voted against: Russia, Syria, North Korea, Belarus and Eritrea.

Venezuela would have voted against too, but they're so broke they couldn't manage to pay their UN dues and their voting rights are suspended right now.

“Russia doesnt care about sanctions, they dont care about the EU or NATO.”

Yes they do. They don’t have the ball to attack a NATO country.

“They want Ukraine, so they will take any amount of Ukraine they want.”

Only because NATO is allowing them to. Otherwise those staging areas and bottlenecks would be easy killin.

The Russians will fight an insurgency in all areas of Ukraine. When the bulk of Russians leave, the remainder will pay the price.

“Russian corruption and lack of basic maintenance. Example: Analyst reviewed pictures of abandoned Russian vehicles, which showed deflated tires. Looks like Russians were too corrupt to regularly move the vehicles to prevent brittle/rotten tires.”

Correct, but it is even worse. They are cheap Chinese tires! I kid you not.

I suspect many Russians in Ukraine do not favor the invasion.

Having you life turned upside and your nuclear power plant attacked would tend to enhance said feeling.

Hard to fight when you haven't eaten in weeks, that's coming.

Agree. Putin will probably take Kyiv, but that will not end the war. Look at a map of invaded Ukraine, Russians have only advanced into about 20% of Ukraine.

I’m rooting for a factual reporting of whatever the hell is going on.

But I’m not holding my breath.

Maybe he’s not, but do a little searching. Apparently a huge percentage of Freepers are rooting for Putin. He’s got lots of fan boys here.

I said “Massive civilian casualties, and infrastructure destruction”.

I didn't say there wasn't going to be any damage. Google Ukrainian, Russian, German, Chines, and Japanese cities during WWII for all out war. Compare, and contrast.

YOU would bomb certain buildings concealed within a nuclear power plant if those buildings were being used as biological weapons labs. Certain buildings were destroyed but not the entire nuclear power generation facility.

The evil ones thought they could get away with hiding bio weapons labs in the plant because Putin’s army would not attack their nasty lab if concealed there.

More than one such lab in Ukraine sits concealed within or adjacent to a target Russia would normally not destroy.

Do we have to root for anyone? Can we root for the truth? This war has crap on both sides at the top and the people get the worst of it.

I can’t stand with Hillary and George Soros any more than stand with Putin.

In the end. Ukraine will be ruled over and enslaved by either side just like we will .

My issue is you have some great maneuvers and some “WTF” stuff.

The seizing of the power plant was well done (honestly both sides, as the Ukes did not blow the thing).

But then you have the images of rolling stock stalled and broken on the side of the road.

And yes, it is working. Russia will control all of the Ukraine east of the Dnieper river by this time next week, and be moving west. But I am staring to wonder just how much capability do they have to say, move into Romania or the Baltic states, where NATO has had a presence for years.

“BRUSSELS, March 4 (Reuters) - European Union officials are examining curbing Russia’s influence and access to finance at the International Monetary Fund following its invasion of Ukraine. One option under consideration is to remove Russia entirely from the institution.”

Excellent post. Many prominent people, including good men like Charles Lindbergh and naive men like the Duke of Windsor, were chummy with Nazi Germany right up until Crystal Night, 1938 and certainly the brutal invasion of Poland 10 months later.

It is now the equivalent of October 1939 and anybody not supporting Ukraine now is either an idiot or in the company of that sorry crowd that you mentioned.
