Ukrainian forces have launched an offensive in the Kherson region, with Russian invaders suffering losses and defending on unfavorable positions.

Bluff. Bluster.
Six nights a week, Vladimir Solovyov, one of the dominant voices in Russian propaganda, gathers a half-dozen pundits for more than two hours of what appears to be unscripted political crosstalk. Most recent episodes have been devoted to mocking Ukraine and its allies—especially the United States and President Biden—and debating Russia's options. “Should we just turn the world to dust?” Solovyov asked during his show on April 29th. His guests—seven middle-aged men—laughed heartily.
Later, Solovyov grew sombre. “I'd like to remind the West of two statements of historic significance,” he said. “The President of the Russian Federation has asked, ‘What is the point of a world in which there is no Russia?’ ” This is a quote from an interview Solovyov himself conducted with Vladimir Putin, in 2018, in which Putin responded to a question about the possibility of a nuclear war. The second statement Solovyov quoted was also from Putin in 2018: “If they start a nuclear war, we will respond. But we, being righteous people, will go straight to Heaven, while they will just croak.” Solovyov quotes this one a lot, sometimes as a sort of call-and-response with his guests.

Nearly three-quarters of Russia's natural gas exports flowed to OECD Europe last year, making up as much as 40% of the region's natural gas supplies. Europe's energy dependency on Russia has prompted much debate and soul-searching in the wake of Moscow's attack on Ukraine. On March 8, the EU published a plan to cut Russian gas imports by two-thirds this year and to completely wean itself off Russian gas “well before 2030.” But in 2021 almost one-fifth of Russia's total gas exports (19%) went to Germany alone, making it the top individual recipient for the year. Next were Turkey at 11% and Italy at 10%. Only 6% of Russian gas exports went to China, and 8% to Belarus.
China was the top destination for Russian crude oil and condensate exports in 2021, receiving nearly 30% of the total. Second and third place went to the Netherlands and Germany, accounting for 13% and 10%, respectively. Together, the two received nearly half of Russian crude oil and condensate exported to Europe last year. Just over 4% of Russia's oil exports went to the United States. Earlier this month, however, Washington banned imports of Russian oil and gas into the U.S, trying to deprive Moscow of revenue after its invasion of Ukraine; the move was matched by a U.K. phase-out of Russian oil imports, but the EU did not follow suit.

The target of five million euros ($5.4 million) was raised in just three and a half days, largely in small amounts, to fund the purchase of a Byraktar TB2 military drone, according to Laisves TV, the Lithuanian internet broadcaster that launched the drive.
“Before this war started, none of us thought that we would be buying guns. But it's a normal thing now. Something must be done for the world to get better,” said Agne Belickaite, 32, who sent 100 euros as soon as the fundraising launched on Wednesday.
“I've been donating to buy guns for Ukraine for a while now. And will do so until the victory,” she told Reuters, adding she was motivated in part by fears Russia could attack Lithuania.

A military recruitment station in the very centre of St Petersburg, on the Palace Square. Inflatable Strelkov is inviting passerbys to sign an army contract. What is important here is that it is happening in the second largest city. Which means Russia is running off of manpower
Here you can see the casualty figures in Ukraine by region (collected by Mediazona) per capita. Some accuse the West of being ready to fight “till the last Ukrainian”. As you see, Russian metropoly is willing to fight till the last provincial
Until this year, Russian citizens could sign a contract for the military service till 40 and foreigners till 30 y.o. On May 20 MPs introduced a bill cancelling the age limit. It means they’re running out of the volunteers

The Taliban apparently sensed a weakness in the positions of the Russian leadership and decided to play on the nerves of the Kremlin. The Taliban's plans to annex territories belonging to Tajikistan are seriously worrying the Kremlin. Tajikistan is part of the CSTO and the direct invasion of the Taliban forces the Russian leadership to either open a second front in Tajikistan against the Taliban, and due to the war in Ukraine, the Kremlin does not have enough troops and weapons to help Tajikistan, or by refusing to help the Kremlin buries the CSTO with its own hands.
We talked about the fact that the Russian leadership agreed with representatives of the Taliban terrorist organization that the Taliban would not attack Tajikistan. The total amount of the transaction amounted to three billion US dollars. Part of the amount should be closed in cash within a year, and part, approximately 40%, in goods and energy. Negotiations aimed at persuading the Taliban to abandon plans to annex part of the territory of Tajikistan have been actively conducted by the Russian leadership since the beginning of March, and it would seem that agreements have been reached. And even, as a pleasant bonus for the Taliban, the Russian leadership agreed to invite the Taliban to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum SPIEF.
BUT the Taliban have set new conditions and now they demand another two billion dollars, moreover, in cash and as soon as possible, otherwise the previous agreements will be considered invalid.
Negotiations will take place until June 15 at most, and it is until this date that the Taliban are ready to discuss the terms. Russian President Vladimir Putin received a report on this problem on Saturday afternoon. Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev was entrusted with dealing with this problem with the assistance of the Russian Foreign Ministry. There is practically no doubt that the Russian leadership will meet the new demands of their “new friends” of the Taliban, but the appetite comes with food and there are no guarantees that the Taliban will not change their mind again.
