Yes, Tucker, There Is a US Security Interest in Ukraine
American Thinker.com ^ | February 25, 2022 | Sally Zelikovsky

In an ideal world, maybe we could ignore what's happening in Ukraine but we have to see the world as it is, not how we want it to be: Russia is calling and wants its Ukraine back.

I generally appreciate Tucker Carlson, but every time he discusses Ukraine and Russia, I bristle — especially when he contends that America has no interest in Ukraine. I know some of you might agree with Carlson, but you can be a solid conservative who is just as war-weary as the next guy and still see a security interest in Ukraine without being a neocon.

Putin claims to be protecting Russians left in Ukraine after the USSR collapsed, and that Ukraine is rightfully Russian and always has been, even though, historically, there was a Kiev before there was a Moscow. (By the way, it isn't pronounced keev as in keen, but kuh-YEEV in Ukrainian and KEY-yev in Russian.)

Vlad has been a serial breaker of international norms starting as early as 2008, when he invaded Georgia. He annexed Crimea in 2014 and made his first incursion into the Donbas region. Not only has he flagrantly violated Article 2(4) of the U.N. charter by his "use of force against the territorial integrity" of Ukraine, but he has repeatedly violated the promises Russia, the U.S., and the U.K. made in the 1994 Budapest Memorandum: security to Ukraine for giving up its nukes, with assurances that the U.S. would respond if Russia were to renege. All three nations agreed "to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine" and "to refrain from the threat or use of force" against Ukraine.

Sally, you are arguing EXACTLY what Putin has arguing, forewarning, and warning NATO and the West about.....Ukraine is a buffer zone, per se’, capiche? Putin does NOT want NATO on its border, and again, has long stated such, short of the Baltic states that are already bordering Russia.

People who worry that Russia, once it controls Ukraine, will invade Western Europe need to have their head examined. Russia lacks the resources to occupy Europe. They aren’t trying to take over the world.

A very well-written article that explains why Putin wants the Ukraine.

It does NOT explain why I should care. A European buffer? Let Europeans handle it.
Coal, oil, and gas for Europe? Europe’s issue, not mine.

How about this;
We really don’t need to care.
However, our own CIC and administration has botched up every single thing that it has touched in this term. Sending our troops to Ukraine and rallying the libs against Putin deflects from Biden’s ineptness in an election year.

No the US has no strategic interest in the kleptocracy that is Ukraine. Our strategic interest is our southern border.

Sorry Tootsie, we do not have any interest in the Uke. We don’t need to go to war so Hunter can keep his no-show gig and protect the big guy’s cut.
Like all those donor’s to the clinton foundation, they hitched their wagons to the wrong people (dumocrats) and now they get to see their money and their country lit up in flames.

This statement looks particularly silly and bizarre when you realize that United States of America has made such an outrageous habit of toppling governments and invading sovereign nations all over the world during the course of my lifetime.

Western Europe’s Deep States are allied with Putin and the ChiComs.

Somehow their populations haven’t figured that our yet.

But they’re about to find out the hard way.

Sally, I don't see where you described it. At all.

Not to beat a phrase to death but the Russians and Ukrainians are two vicious scorpions in a bottle. They deserve each other.

None of it is our concern. A border three thousand miles away, across an entire ocean for Heavens sake while our southern border is wide open.

Well, frankly to me this just really looks like the United States wanted out of the ‘agreement.’ And just like Afghanistan, this is a nasty looking retreat. This time from Russians, not the Taliban.

Hey Sally -

Got any kids? How about you send them to Ukraine to fight instead of volunteering mine.

Thanks!

I don’t think the argument is that there is no interest, the argument is that we have many more important issues.

Had Ukraine pursued a policy of independent neutrality, like Finland or Sweden, this would not be happening.

Russia is an evil actor and I don’t give a damn what it doesn’t want on its border.

Do you think that Putin is a child that while he attacks and destroys another country he honestly believes NATO was any threat to him? What nonsense.

Most of those also said Russia would not take all of Ukraine, just the Eastern provinces.

I can tell you that Western Europe (Germany, France) would be happy to sacrifice Hungary and Poland to Russia in exchange for energy security and "peace"
