Russian President Vladimir Putin will recognize the independence of eastern Ukraine's separatist republics, the Kremlin said in a statement Monday, adding that he had informed the French and German leaders of his decision.
"In the near future, the president plans to sign the order," the Kremlin said. It added that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had "expressed disappointment" over the decision in phone calls with Putin.

Ukraine needs to say sayonara to these territories. What this will do is force the Ukes to fire the first shot. The Russkies just need to be invited in. Any effort of Ukraine to establish their sovereignty will involve moving in to those states
I blame all of this on Trump. It was his mean tweets which caused all the chaos.
In my opinion, Biden needs to take one for the country, concede congress to the Republicans, tell the eco left to piss off and reignite our domestic oil production. Prices will drop, Putin will panic and pull back. For the US, it will bring back jobs and lower energy, food, fuel costs for Joe Q Public.
This was obviously going to happen.
Everyone likes to point towards Hitler and WWII. If Hitler had 10,000 nuclear warheads in 1939, we’d have had no WWII in Europe. Hitler would have had his Lebensraum and Asian and European Jewry would have been a distant memory by 1944. Same deal here. Putin will annex all of Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltics. Basically rebuild the USSR and we will just watch and do nothing but prevent Amazon from selling there and send strongly worded letters about climate change and Black History Month veneration violations.
The relevant independence he is acknowledging is from Ukraine. That means he could come to their defense if they request it.
The residents of the regions object to being mistreated.

Since Putin is apparently not invading, will the proposed meeting with Putin, that the State Dept so desperately proposed through Macron, be dead or still viable?

President Trump did so much for our country in four years. And with all the impeachment cr** going on at the same time. He’s really quite an amazing gentleman.

During the Russian Security Council meeting today it was said that the Ukes are not doing random shelling, but deliberately try to target civilian infrastructure (water, electricity). This makes a difference.
Other valid reason for intervention mentioned: stated intend of the Ukes to get nuclear weapons (which they cannot — but dirty bombs they can) and sending terrorist teams into Russia over the last two days.
Ukraine already has a presence in those two places. In other words, the Russian-backed rebels don’t control all of the territories that Putin just declared independent.
Likewise if I ever see you getting curbstomped by Antifa I’ll stay out of it. It would be none of my business, right?
Putin doesn’t give a rip about those people, they’re just tools to him.
NATO brought this on by making its club as open to all comers.
