One guy in the crowd suggested they all to to the war memorial where the local cops lack jurisdiction, although I suspect Trudy's emergency declaration might supersede the usual rules.

Have seem it done right, seen it done wrong obviously engaging without a plan. Australia and New Zealand are recent examples - disorganized and feckless. This Canadian situation shows thought with planning, gathering and positioning of resources, more than a civilian police culture should be capable about in a land that's been historically free from the need for it.

Undoubtedly, they are using force to disperse peaceful protests. It's minimal, but if people had chosen to lie down before the horses, it would be uglier.

And Castrateau’s emergency declaration isn’t even legal; Parliament has to vote on it and they have not yet done so. Plus the circumstances do not warrant it, according to Canadian charter etc.

And the police have left ample room for the crowd to retreat and disperse. So, they don't need to fight.

A good thing really. Maintains the moral superiority of the protestors. That actually means something for the future of the campaign.

Besides, the live streamers have photographed multiple police snipers targeting the crowds with their weapons, and a number of police in the back ranks with automatic rifles, in addition to tear gas grenade launchers. There are at least three ranks of police, and they probably are equal in number to the protestors.

The front-ranks of the police have body armor and are carrying truncheons. They are well-trained and work as a unit to their officer's commands.

Any real fight from the crowd would result in a massacre. And martyrdom is highly overrated.

The crowd is being driven back and most will disperse. That is the best outcome for today.

This war will be continued by other means. Peaceful protest has just about run its' course. I would guess that a general strike of the truckers and a lot of sabotage will be the next steps.

The government will ruin a lot of people with their confiscation of bank accounts, trucks, and other assets. Jails are already full, so protestors will end up in "temporary" concentration camps.

That does not leave people with anything left to lose.

My guess is that Trudeau will end up like Nicolae Ceaușescu.

Looks like they could only get the scummiest bottom of the barrel tow companies to get involved. Dented and rust covered truck that probably has little to no maintenance done on it, just enough to keep it legal and pass inspection.

All of this is being done today with the Parliament not meeting. The goal should be to collapse the confidence in the government. So, they need to continue the protests somehow, or bring more protestors in from the area just cleared by the cops.
