Asheville in the 70s was a fun place to live. Back then when you met people ask where they were from they usually said things like, “Canton, Waynesville, Barnardsivlle, Marshall, Old Fort, etc.” which you know are nearby towns.

Starting around 20 years ago the vibe changed and people answered the same question with, “California, Michigan, Colorado, NJ, etc.

I live 20 miles away from it and used to love to go there for a brew and a meal but the place has changed so much for the worse with young liberal degenerates and upscale elitists that I’ve stayed away from it unless it’s for business for the past 10 years.

Do you remember Ike’s International restaurant on Merrimon near Beaver Lake?

When I was in Asheville in October, there was a tent city in the I-240 right of way. Walked by it in the daytime and it didn’t look too bad. However, I read in an online paper that they closed the tent city down after the police gave several warnings. One of the inhabitants was found to be deceased, and another undergoing a sever mental crisis. The city was buying an old hotel and planned to convert it into an 80 person home for the homeless. Many of the homeless, however, don’t like the rules such a shelter enforces.

Plenty of room for nomadic tents at the Biltmore Estate. They can sleep inside the Biltmore House during the coldest nights. Can practice brigandry in Biltmore village during the day.

I live a half hour south of Trashville. Just one more reason to avoid that place like the plague.

Lutheran Services of the Carolinas Refugee and Immigrant Services...

They’re the prime subcontractor NGO I guess and they’re calling out to on-site ‘gooders’ to help them out and help them make their money easier.

Yes. They get bigtime funding from the U.S. government, aka YOU, the hardworking taxpaying citizen.

I remember Ike’s Restaurant, and I lived just up Merriman. Remember “The Bridge Sound Company”? A local stereo store run by some of the original Asheville hippies :) And you’re right - the move ins have spoiled the charm town.

Btw, I have relatives in Bearwallow and Edneyville. God’s country for sure.

Asheville cannot even take care of its indigenous underclass. Now, they are going to import an Islamic underclass. This underclass will form a community and, when it gets large enough, a danger and possibly a no go zone.

The BLM riots in Asheville were catastrophic to the police. They have lost 80+ members of their members due to retirements and burnouts. They are having trouble getting new recruits and have hired a hiring agency to fill the vacancies.

The mayor is an idiot who has hired a equity advocate who said that every week the police kill a black guy for no reason. The mayor is pushing reparations. She is from the Netherlands and is trying to make Asheville a mini Portland or Seattle. The mayor also tore down a monument that had been in place for 103 years.

I really love the area. Many, many good people, but the outsiders brought in their liberal ways and blue city governance.

There are lots of good traditional people there, too. A lot of the leftist folks are really nice, just misguided.
