Of all the burdens Manhattan has borne this January, the imminent closing of the 24-hour Midtown West Rite Aid hardly qualifies as a tragedy. But the fact that an otherwise-thriving major corporation is giving up on core Manhattan matters for our decaying borough.
The pharmacy, on 8th Avenue and 50th Street, will close Feb. 8. Last week, it was effectively already shuttered, with most of the store cordoned off with gates. Just a small, strange assortment — children’s coloring books jumbled with vitamins — was marooned on front shelves on “clearance.”
The clearance prices were ironic — because the reason the Rite Aid is closing is mass-scale shoplifting. As The Post reported last week, the shop lost $200,000 in goods in two months.

“So all the major cities will end up like Detroit? That explains why Atlanta Braves built their new ballpark in Cobb County.”
The Chicago Bears have bought up a huge, well located by major highways plot of land in a prime northwest suburb of Chicago, Arlington Heights. Gee, I wonder why.....
Detroit moved the Lions and Pistons from the suburbs back to downtown.
A bum in Seattle was arrested for his 22d shop lifting at one mid-town Target the other day
He is recorded on security stealing a 70 inch TV. Value $750 so he was only be charged with a misdemeanor (under $950 threshold for a felony).
He has 15 other arrests at other Seattle stores.
The Rite Aid lost $200,000 in goods in two months.
Essentially: "White-people deserts."

Where is the three strikes and habitual criminals go to jail for life law when you need it?
Wow
They do have pockets, but you just don't notice them because they're down between their knees and their ankles ...
“You get what you vote for...” is a valid assertion, assuming that the election is conducted fairly. Sadly, that is a big assumption. I live in a “one party” jurisdiction myself, and there always seems to be an errant box of ballots appearing just in the nick of time to re-elect the local Leftist. By creating urban enclaves they have long claimed as their fiefdoms, Democrats have come to successfully control states that have have otherwise conservative constituencies. The latest con is to “colonize” more rural districts via clandestine import of illegal aliens. The corrosive nature of machine politics will not be undone by elections alone.
Like living in a toilet, keep voting for the sh##
I’ll second that. To hell with them.
Are you aware that NYC recently had RCV shoved down its throat?
If NYC is so reliably leftist, why would Deep State do that, eh?
Note to Gothamites: Want your city back? Repeal RCV. Go back to dumb voting machines.
Politicians in suits are the worst gonefs of them all. They’ve “legalized” extraction of money via taxes at the point of a gun if necessary.
One of the best things to come out of the large-scale migration to a “work from home” business model is that people will spend most of their time working in the place where they live, pay taxes, and VOTE … and they’ll stop giving a sh!t about the expensive, dysfunctional urban dump where they used to spend most of their days but where they had no political influence at all.
Most wealthy get rich off real estate, not stocks or bonds. There's far more money involved. Smart-money profits off dumb-money, and there's far more dumb-money in real estate. The most common tactic is to destroy the value of a real estate market by importing undesirables, buy it, throw the bums out, then profit. Blockbusting is a form of it, although in the suburbs, bombing a neighborhood with section 8 Democrats is the modern equivalent.
WHO wants to live in these big cities anymore?? UGH.
Maybe you are SO NEW HERE you forgot the SARCASM TAG!
and Amazon or the various home delivery services pick up the slack.
At which point, instead of shoplifters, you must contend with porch pirates.
