In a statement released by his office, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts as a lack of ‘backbone’ for siding with liberal justices and upholding President Biden’s vaccine mandate for healthcare workers.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court issued a much anticipated ruling blocking Biden’s mandate requiring vaccinations for businesses with more than 100 employees or regular testing. The high court however allowed a mandate requiring that facilities that receive federal funding to tell employees to get vaccinated.
On Friday, DeSantis appeared on the ‘Ruthless’ podcast to discuss the nurse mandate and the doctor mandate that Roberts and Kavanaugh both supported.
In its ruling, the court ruled 6-3 against the federal mandate for private employers, and 5-4 for the mandate for federally funded healthcare facilities to continue.
Although the Supreme Court’s decision is not final, 27 states have petitioned it to issue a stay on the health care mandate while lower court battles are fought.
As a result of short staffing at hospitals, DeSantis noted that hospitals in California are allowing Covid-positive nurses to return to work.
So now they are bringing COVID-positive people back to work while unvaccinated, likely immune through prior infection, healthy nurses are on the sidelines fired,’ the Sunshine State governor continued. ‘How insane are these policies?’
‘But honestly, Roberts and Kavanaugh did not have a backbone on that decision,’ DeSantis also said. ‘That’s just the bottom line.’
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning vaccine mandates in November unless employers provided a broad range of exemptions.
‘I called a special session of the legislature in November and we provided protections so that, in Florida, you’re not going to lose your job over these shots,’ DeSantis said in the podcast. ‘You have the right to work.’
In response to the SCOTUS ruling, DeSantis said on Thursday that he would enforce the Florida law that prohibits private employers from imposing vaccine requirements on their employees, in addition to public workers.
‘We’re going to make sure that that is enforced, and we’re going to make sure we’re providing protections for people so that they don’t have their livelihoods ruined by an unconstitutional and really ham-handed federal mandate,’ DeSantis said.
Mary Mayhew, president and chief executive officer at Florida Hospital Association, said that hospitals receiving funding from Medicare or Medicaid could still require employees to receive vaccines.
‘Hospitals are obligated to remain compliant with the programs’ conditions of participation and must comply with this federal vaccine requirement now upheld by the highest court,’ said Mayhew, a former official in the DeSantis administration, according to Florida Politics.
Hospitals are now caught between Biden and DeSantis’ ongoing feud, said Mayhew, and ‘may still need clarity from the courts regarding federal preemption regarding the Florida state law.’
On the other side, Biden called the Supreme Court’s ruling against the private employer mandate ‘disappointing’ but touted that the healthcare mandate ‘will save lives.’ He encouraged private businesses to require vaccination of their own accord.
‘This emergency standard allowed employers to require vaccinations or to permit workers to refuse to be vaccinated, so long as they were tested once a week and wore a mask at work: a very modest burden,’ the president claimed.
‘As a result of the Court’s decision, it is now up to States and individual employers to determine whether to make their workplaces as safe as possible for employees, and whether their businesses will be safe for consumers during this pandemic by requiring employees to take the simple and effective step of getting vaccinated.’
There are thirteen states that have banned or limited the implementation of mandatory vaccine mandates, including Texas, Florida, and Arizona, while many companies such as Macy’s and Starbucks have already announced their own protocols.
In states led by Democrats, such as New York, the rules will not be touched and they will be able to continue operating as usual, while states without any rules in place can decide for themselves what to do with them.
Given their track record over the past 20 years (plenty of non-SCOTUS "Federalist Society" lawyers have turned traitor as well, like Ted Olsen), future GOP presidents would be wise to ignore any so-called "originalist" they tout as SCOTUS material.
As I noted, these so-called "originalists" have turned out about as well as every politician who gets elected by running as a "fiscal conservative"
We certainly didn't get solid justices like Rehnquist due to taking advice from the Federalist Society.
Then Joe Biden would swiftly name a hardcore marxist as his replacement.
Rubber stamping GOP nominees for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land has consequences.
Sadly, Trump gave them all(His 3) praise tonight.
The Federalist Papers are a bunch of essays supporting a more powerful national government, one that would pay off at face value the war debt bought at great discounts by NYC financiers.
Many if most of the unvaxxed don’t trust hospitals and believe that they will intentionally receive substandard care that will fast tract them to ventilators and multi organ failure.
It’s time that an independent private self pay system rises up to fill the void.
For Covid emphasis should be on outpatient care or if necessary home care.
Hospitals are pushing renal toxic Remdesivir and ventilators; they have financial incentives for Covid diagnosis and Covid deaths. Family is restricted from seeing loved ones.
At home, patients could receive 02 via concentrators IV fluids, Abx and of course ivermectin, HCQ, luvoximine, nebulized steroids. These providers and extenders would need to round on patients at home.
The HCWs that have left because of vaccine refusal or have become tired of the lack of autonomy should be doing this.
They wouldn’t be taking Medicare or government insurance but they could at least provide effective treatment.

It will never come to this, but I would vote for Ron over our great President in absentia. He is the ONLY person I would select ahead of Trump.
He’d be a vast improvement over anyone that the Democrats shove in our face.
Who cares if he agrees to overturn Roe?
Yes. And I had concerns about Kavanagh’s conservative credentials when he was nominated. I’m fine with Gorsuch. Coney Hot Dog? It remains to be seen.
Trump is raising money
I believe that Kavanaugh will go where Roberts goes.
They will tag team us. Kavanaugh, Barrett and Gorsuch will take turns betraying the Constitution. That way the heat won’t be focused on one.
The last I checked the Texas heartbeat law is still in effect and saving lives. That is likely precursor to a ruling that will overturn Roe. It wouldn't be if not for Kavanaugh.
We gives freep about this one issue. Overall, Kavanaugh is much better than Roberts or Anthony Kennedy.
Trump consulted both the Federal Society and the ACLJ on all the judges. He's the only President to have done anything like that. So, if there was a screw up, it's on the conservative legal organizations.
Go freep yourself if Trump's efforts weren't good enough. He did a better job on judges than any President in my lifetime, including Reagan.
Please state your reasons for bundling Gorsuch with Roberts and Kavanaugh.
My bet is they’re not going to close. They will reluctantly try to enforce the mandate and make do without the healthcare workers who refuse to take the vaxx. >>> i worked for and was responsible to pay about $8B per year to hospitals each year.
They would cry for money each June to make their balance sheets look good. They are the worst run financially than any company you would walk into. CHOP couldn’t balance anything. We prepaid them and settled every quarter. mostly in their favor. Millions just written off for large hospitals.
Evangelical Christians are a sizable (around 30-35) percentage of the US population.
There are ZERO Evangelical Christians on the Supreme Court.
They have already closed hospitals due to lack of workers. My daughter is a critical fare nurse. They are only supposed to carry two patients during a shift but are needed w routinely carrying three. Many nurses quit refusing to take the vaxx and the hospital canceled the traveling nurses. There will be more closures over this. It is not in doubt.

Kavanaugh must have been “Jeff Flaked” in an elevator by to wise ass “latinas”. They scared the testosterone out of him like they did Jeffy the Flake.
Gorsuch has already voted to the LEFT of Roberts in at least 3 or 4 notable cases, though admittedly Gorsuch has been a good boy and the "most conservative" of Trump's three crappy picks lately.
I'd trust him as far I could throw him.
