The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention amended its controversial Covid-19 isolation guidance on Tuesday, declining to add a testing requirement as public health officials expected after the agency cut its recommended quarantine time in half.
In its updated guidance, the CDC said people who have recovered from the virus and have isolated for at least five days can take a rapid test if they want, but they don’t have to — falling far short of making an outright recommendation to get a negative Covid test before ending isolation.
“I do not think that the clarification helped at all and I actually think that it made things worse,” emergency physician Dr. Leanna Wen, the former health commissioner of Baltimore, said in an interview with CNN. “I think they should be upfront and say they can’t do this because they don’t have enough tests.”
The updated guidance comes after the CDC faced a barrage of criticism last week for shortening its recommended isolation period from 10 days without asking for people to get tested.
“If an individual has access to a test and wants to test, the best approach is to use an antigen test towards the end of the 5-day isolation period,” the agency said in updated guidance on its website.
Many Americans do not have access to tests right now. Pharmacies are frequently sold out of at-home tests both online and in stores amid a dramatic spike in demand, and lines at testing sites are often hourslong.
The CDC, in its guidance, recommended that people with Covid isolate for five days if they are asymptomatic or if their symptoms are resolving. They should then wear a mask for five days after coming out of isolation.

Because there are no at home kits.
The CDC have proven themselves to be worse than useless.
Much worse.
Defund them.
Routine testing of people who are not feeling ill needs to cease. Start with school children and college students!
The CDC is just as fake as their vaccines
Like Biden said, just Google for free tests

Midterm elections are coming. They need to declare victory, regardless of the numbers and move on. Just like the media stopped tallying the death count one Biden got in.
My GP recommended a “home kit” in place of a colonoscopy last year as routine for my age.
I happened to have some issues during this time and scheduled a regular screening.
My gastro told me he has seen so many of these “kits” turn up as false positives for cancer and patients coming to him scared to death. And, in some cases, miss possible cancer.
He has a great reputation in our area and has treated several family members.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update and a Fauci contradiction.
Gaslighting won’t work again
Stay tuned for Faucifications.
A false positive result just means you go for the scope and potential polyp removal with local anesthesia, inconvenient, but only about 5 to 15% of the time. A false negative means you might have cancerous polyps that could have been removed, but only if you would have gone in for a scope.
Since many younger people don't want to do the scope, they do the home test once a year or so, which is better than nothing.
Well...I’m middle-aged and was having health concerns. So I was glad to get a proper screening.
Shouldn’t we be happy about this?
CDC might be showing some resolve not to be swayed by fear-mongers.
First, cutting the quarantine. Then, declining to force testing at the end of it.
Sounds OK to me.
ROFL!
Sounds like they are realizing that the fear epidemic is a thousand times more serious than the Omicron/O my CON.
The Biden administration cannot ever take care about Covid. There are no tests, no vaccines, no treatments!
A lot worse than year ago!
I’m hoping I’m seeing cracks in this insanity.
NY gov indicates children in hospital should be distinguished between those FROM and those WITH COVID.
Chicago PTB stating that schools should open (despite teacher union wishes).
My BIL is in the hospital and on a ventilator because of Covid. He tested negative around Thanksgiving but turns out he DID have Covid. By the time he finally tested positive 2 weeks later, it was too late for monoclonal antibodies. He’s been hospitalized since December 18th and on the ventilator since December 23rd, and yet even with ICU treatment, he is still testing positive for Covid, FFS!
Ever watch www.katedalleyshow.Com?...she did video about getting her husbaND out of hospital...short but very good...vitamin c infusions, etc. she demanded, etc. He had comorbidities. ..you may find it helpful for your BIL
