NFL legend John Madden died unexpected this morning. He was 85.
Bolts fan from 1971 - 2016 here...
Madden was one of two former associates of Satan’s Team that I liked. (I went to church with another one, a former LT named Don Mosebar. Great guy, despite who drafted him from the University of Spoiled Children.)
The ‘All Madden’ documentary they ran on FOX on Christmas Day was really good.

I’m sure they’ll run it again in tribute at some point in the near future.
What a guy! I loved how he EXPLAINED football to you. I learned a lot from him, even though I come from a RABID Football Fan Family.
Another decent human being, gone too soon! :(
“Rush and now Madden what a messed up year”
On the PLUS Side, we got rid of Harry Reid! Maybe Pelosi or ‘She Who Shall Not Be Named’ can make it a Socialist Democrat trifecta? We’ve got two more days! ;)
Norm Macdonald hit me the hardest, I was prepared for Rush, but Norm totally caught me by surprise.
However, NO renaming of the 'Lombardi' Trophy! I'm thinking we might win OUR trophy again this year if Aaron gets over his 'toe-vid,' LOL!
Coach Madden, after living a full life, died.
When he got to Heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a nice little house with a faded Raiders flag in the window.
“This house is yours for eternity John”, said God. “This is very special, not every Coach gets a house up here.” Madden felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house.
On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a HUGE 3 story mansion with Green and Gold sidewalks and drive ways, a 50 foot tall flagpole with an enormous Green Bay Packers flag waving, a swimming pool in the shape of a Cheesehead Hat, a GB logo in every window, and a #12 Aaron Rodgers jersey on the front door.
Madden looked at God and said “God, I’m not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I was one of the best Coaches to ever live. I won the Super Bowl with the Raiders, and I even won 16 Emmys during my Broadcast career!”
God said “So what’s your point John?” “Well, why does Coach Lombardi get a better house than me?”
God chuckled, and said “John, that’s not Lombardi’s house, it’s mine!”
I think that guy is smokin’ on the field...HE IS, he’s smokin’ on the field! lmao!
Reminds me of Yogi Berra.
And streaming for free on “Tubi” after January 3rd, ‘22. (I don’t have a “cable/sat.” package, just a couple of $9.99 ala carte streaming subs like Hulu/Disney+ and Discovery+).
For me, the only guy in sports commentary that gets close to Madden these days is John McEnroe in tennis. The guy is funny, knows what he’s talking about, and cuts through stupid comments by ignorant journalists.
You can’t be serious!
I liked him even then. There was something about "Super-Brat" I liked then (I tend to like what the media doesn't) and now.
The first pro football game I ever attended was a 1969 AFL game in Oakland. Madden was the Raiders rookie head coach. He was the youngest coach in the league, and his team went 12-1-1.
And wasn’t Blanda at least 5 years older than Madden?
I think he was 10 years older.
Darryl Lamonica days. The 70’s were fun with Madden as the Raiders’ coach.
A lot of fun just like Madden himself.
Well said. He made watching fun.
