Texas should have deemed the materials left by the federal government as abandoned property. Then run a notice in the local newspaper for 30 days saying if not claimed and removed it will be taken by the state of Texas.
“He’s been talking about the issue for 7 years and then decides to take action at 2 minutes to midnight.”
None of the border States want to have to pay the big bill, that rightfully should come from the Federal budget.
Biden halted work in the end of January, and Texas/Abbott started planning pretty quickly to take on this giant mission. By June they had the plan coordinated and put it into effect.
It has always been a Federal responsibility (and bill), but when this Administration so blatantly abrogated their responsibility, Abbott was quick to respond. He is also the only border State Governor to substantially respond.
FAR OUT!!! Way to go Texas. Protect your own citizens from the invasion!!
Hmm. I don’t know as much about him, apparently.
I wish some other border republicans would posture and start building walls, though.
YA wanna swim?
Or FLY??
I live here. He refuses to debate his primary challengers, all of whom are credible conservatives.
Bottom line: he promised to deal with the border 7 years ago, and then he did nothing till now. He would still be doing nothing if not for his challengers.
How about bringing over truckloads of ‘gators from Florida and tossing them in the Rio Grande?
Abbott and DeSantis can collaborate on this project.
I’m all for Sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads.
Piranhas would be better
Article I, Section 8, Clause 18:
[The Congress shall have Power . . . ] To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.
What is the legal argument for states to deport illegal aliens? AFAIK that has never been done (officially anyway) by a state. Problem is Texas DPS can arrest and charge them, but it is not a federal agency. I hope I am wrong about this.
And that’s just for a single crew. Multiple crews, multiply that 17 miles.
Hoping they won’t need gunners to lay down covering fire do they can keep working.
The cartels will not be pleased.
That’s beautiful!!! Go Texas!!! It is damned nice to see a state tell the federal government that we have STATES RIGHTS!!! The Constitution by the Founders wanted individual states to decide what their people wanted. That is why the stinking Congress was limited on how long they could be there. Then they changed everything so Senators were elected like congresscritters and could stay 6 years while CC’s could only stay 2 years. Stinking Congress has ALWAYS changed everything to go their way. Congress got way too big for their pants and now they want to rule the country instead of serving the country. A bunch of stinking bums in my humble opinion.
Hope you are right, but I never found any news of any state or local law enforcement doing that yet. In Texas the feds always move them wherever they want, and the DOJ does not care.
A sight for sore eyes!
No wonder it is so expensive to build this wall. I count 22 guys in your photo standing around with their hands in their pockets.
Typical government project. 22 supervisors, 1 crane operator, 3 other guys actually working.
70. Coming to a border crossing in Texas soon, gator-tacos!!.
