Right. He’s not a violent or hateful guy. He killed with the weapon in a situation where he shouldn’t have had to. He doesn’t feel good about what he did, though he knows he was in the right. I don’t think he feels happy about having to kill someone. His tears and upset were real.

No, it’s not his gun. He borrowed it from a friend, according to the trial.

It’s his gun…do whatever you want with it.

Although I'm torn, I ultimately agree with your point. On the one hand, it's a viable weapon, and if Rittenhouse didn't want to be associated with it, he could always sell it. However, there's always the possibility that the buyer would be unstable, seeing the weapon as some kind of symbol and eventually using it to "make a name for himself".

But as you said, it's his to do with as he deems fit.

Given the degenerating cultural situation in our society today (which I can’t see improving in the foreseeable future), it’s probably a wise decision. It will eventually go out of his hands, maybe into the hands of a collector, but most probably eventually into some kind of museum and darkly displayed as an article of “infamy” associated with a horrible facsist crime; a tangible relic forever linked to his (and his descendants) name. Who would want that? Better to destroy it and not give them the chance.

It’s just a tool. Plenty more where it came from. Just drill a few holes yourself.

Amen, his gun, his choice. And those are his memories he has to live with. Of both the killing and the trials where he was called everything but Satan.

If this helps to give him some calm to sleep, more power to him.

Disassemble it and sell the parts. Viola Voilà, it’s destroyed.

Perfect solution!

The way I see it, the gun saved his life. Maybe a special gun cabinet, in a place of honor, would be better and less snowflake-y.

Who said he’s doing it to appease leftists? I imagine the poor kid has been traumatized by this whole ordeal and wants nothing to do with the gun anymore. I imagine he now has, or will have, some PTSD from killing two people and being in jail etc.

Well, actually it’s Dominic Black’s gun, and I believe it’s still a piece of evidence in Binger’s prosecution of Black, so I don’t think Rittenhouse or Black are free to do anything with it at this time.

Yes, that case is still pending, with the next court date January 10, 2022. Binger would love to add a tidbit about evidence destruction. https://wcca.wicourts.gov/caseDetail.html?caseNo=2020CF001275&countyNo=30&index=0&mode=details

Doesn’t the Fed background check detect that condition?

It’s a parallel to why I don’t believe gun show stories about a combat veteran smuggling home their pistol or service rifle...quite apart from issues of accountability, I think most who had actually “seen the elephant” wanted to put the bad memories behind them, and turned in their weapons hoping never to see or think of them again.

I’m OK with that decision.

If it got sold and the provenance could be proven, you know eventually some idiot leftist would get it and make some sort of gaslighting insanity about it.

As examples, Dale Earnhardt’s car is buried somewhere. Only one person knows where it is.

I read that when POTUS eats at a restaurant, Secret Service destroys all of the dishes and silverware he uses so it cannot be sold.

He should start his own brand named KR-15.
