Is purchasing a firearm for your kid illegal in Michigan? Maybe only for handguns?

Oh nice. The one time zero tolerance would be a good idea and they don’t implement it.

That Mother gave birth to that SUV driver, did not abort him.

She is guilty., (not that kind of guilty.)

I consider this more like if the parents gave the kid a 5th of vodka and the car keys and said, ‘have fun’.

It seems both premature and raises questions about the DA’s motives in filing charges against anyone other than the boy at this point.

When your child was a toddler and reached for something on the coffee table, did you slap his hand and say No, or did you just move the thing out of his reach?

That's where discipline and responsibility starts.

Hardly premature.

Depends I guess on the circumstances and context.

May be prosecutorial over reach.. or may be there is more to this.

If they bough a handgun “for” him, they violated the law. Illegal for a minor to own a handgun.

Guess we’ll see what more is found out.

I couldn’t help but wonder if the parents had unintentionally encouraged the shooting. Saying things such as “don’t let them girls treat you like that” etc. Sasly sometimes the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Wonder if we will ever know what was said or happened in the meeting prior to the shooting. Certainly the fault of the parents and shooter, no doubt. But the school had a higher duty to the rest of the students and because of what they saw in those drawings, should have compelled them to act immediately.

There may be some truth to that but I have to say I worked with young people for 31.5 years and have a little judgement of appearance. When I look at him I see:
Hostility
Sullenness
Dead eyes, lack of empathy
Don’t care
Selfishness
Remember this being taken after him committing the crime, a normal teen would be scared pale, he is almost sneering.

These were the boys that never tried, were discipline trouble and just didn’t care. The very worst were the ones that also seemed to seek negative attention from their peers.

I’ve seen the type many, many times. Someone totally at war with the world and discovered life was a lie (to them) fresh out of childhood. Of course I never had any THAT BAD.

Parents have to really know their teens before giving them access to firearms. A teen has to be mature and responsible. He has to be emotionally stable. He has to be careful. Otherwise, he shouldn’t have access to a gun. It seems the parents of this kid ignored all the warning signs.

My kids went target shooting as scouts, too. But, when they asked about buying a firearm to keep at home, I said no. I wasn’t worried they would do something crazy. I was worried about WHERE? Our house was organized but filled with books, games, toys, everything. Our closets were packed. Under their beds were packed. The garage was packed. We were always on the go with a busy schedule and very little free time. You have to handle firearms with respect. We would need a place to keep them. We would have to pay attention to them. Even if I bought BB guns, we would need to handle and store them properly, too. Otherwise, we shouldn’t own one. JMHO.

Parenting is definitely no picnic. I have 4 kids; they were raised the same but they turned out VERY different (but they are all doing very well).

And I was still relieved when they turned 18. :)

WELL, it’s either sometimes you have to take a beating from the bullies.... or stand up for yourself and shoot them. somewhere in the middle is how we all cope

The Media is attempting to blame this all on the parents.

There may be some blame there; it is impossible to prevent 15-year-old boys from getting access to guns which are commonly available in this country.

The Media is far more to blame for school shootings than are parents.

The Media make super-stars of school shooters.

For a few people, mostly boys, who are troubled and in a difficult phase of life, it is a gateway to glory.

The Media love it because it gives them a lever to impose Australia level gun control on the population. It is a way for them to negate the Second Amendment.

They love it because they made it happen in Australia.

The Port Arthur Massacre was demonstratively caused by Media contagion, specifically by Media glorifying mass murder as a way to achieve immortal fame.

Because you can’t do phrenology online. ;)

Watch for it. Someone will start producing 3-D images.

However, I have met people who would kill others if it gained them a dime. Most are credibly constrained by threats of retaliation and societal and judicial punishment.

But some do not care if they live or die.

Some are quite willing to go out with a "bang".

At this point in his life, this kid was there.

All the warning signs indicate he wanted someone to stop him.

No one paid quite enough attention to the warning signs.

It is almost certain he was pushed over the edge by Media contagion.

If the DM can be believed, it was purchased as an early Christmas present for him:

“Jennifer took her son shooting the day after James purchased it. She posted a photo of the gun to social media: ‘Mom & son day testing out his new Xmas present’”

Link:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10271865/Charging-decision-parents-Oxford-High-shooting.html

According to the headline and article, the parents have gone “on the run” and there is a BOLO out for them. This case gets curiouser and curiouser.
