The armorer didn’t check the gun and neither did Baldwin.

How do you check the gun? Dummy bullets look exactly like normal bullets.

Are they saying they couldn’t tell the difference between blanks and live ammunition by looking at it? This whole story is becoming surreal.

It is quite easy to tell the difference between blanks and live ammunition. It is considerably more difficult to tell the difference between dummy rounds and live ammunition.

It is my understanding they were using dummy rounds.

From my experience in the national guard it was very obvious at even a casual glance which rounds were live and which were blank. Is there some other kind of blank that looks like a live round?

Dummy rounds look exactly like live rounds. From what i've read, the only distinguishing mark is that some dummy rounds will have a hole drilled in the side of the brass, but these are considered lower quality dummy rounds.

It is my understanding that most movie sets use dummy rounds without the holes drilled in them, and they are indistinguishable from real bullets except for one characteristic. They have a ball bearing installed in them, and when you shake them, they rattle.

This is the only means of telling if a bullet is real or fake.

I would like to see a live and a blank or ‘prop’ round next to each other.
Surely they are not similar.

The question remains...Why did Baldwin aim the gun at a particular person, cock the gun and pull the trigger?

Check the script....It has directions along with the dialogue. His actions were NOT part of the script.

Why were there any bullets in the gun to start with?

My gut still says this was not an accident...and Baldwin still walks around...soooooo sad...but still walking and talking.....and being sooooo sad.

There are dummy rounds that look real but they also are supposed to be identifiable.

Well, yes, but those are not blanks.

Dummy rounds don’t have powder or blasting caps.

Blanks have nothing solid at the tip that can fly off (the end is crimped shut). They may be sealed with a bit of wax or thin plastic.

WHO CARES? Alec Baldwin committed a FELONY, manslaughter.

He was reckless and responsible.

Go to JAIL Alec, directly to jail, don’t pass on responsibility, don’t forget to pay MILLIONS in damages.

Let’s go Alec Baldwin.

And Alec told george that he didn’t pull the trigger.

So I guess he didn’t cock the hammer either.

Oops, maybe he was cocking, and slipped?

And it was an ‘antique’ gun.

Those dang, dangerous guns!

“Knowing what we know of Baldwin’s personality, I can see him being passive-aggressive with her over some petty difference and ‘pretending’ to shoot her.”

I AGREE!

It might have even been in jest.

I’ll bet he was screwing around with the firearm.

It’s popular around here. That’s probably why we don’t see it our LGSs.

It’s my bet that Baldwin has offered a ton of money to this “supplier” to take the blame.

The supplying of the live ammunition is not a major issue. The armorer should have removed any live ammunition. If it got there, it should not have stayed there. There is something really wrong that the Sheriff’s deputies seized live ammunition.

Maybe some people were playing around with target practice with the cool replicas. Or it was just so lax they had live rounds mixed in in the storage. Then Baldwin was likely playing around trying to scare the Director and Cinematographer.

Now the despicable Alec Baldwin is blaming the gun, not the gunner..... Like all leftists do. Says he never pulled the trigger.

Dummy rounds should have no primer seated in the cartridge case head - even without a gunpowder charge, a live primer can push a lead projectile out of the case mouth and into the barrel, where a subsequent blank round could propel it with deadly results (see: Brandon Lee). In place of the missing primer, there is usually a colored rubber plug to absorb the hammer/firing pin strike. The audible rattle isn't something I'd trust, as someone could intentionally add one or two BBs to the case *along with a powder charge*.

Dummy rounds should be visually identifiable in a single-action revolver, simply by opening the cartridge loading gate and manually turning the cylinder so each case head can be seen. Takes just a few seconds to verify "safe".

And they do not go off when you pull the trigger.

Dummy rounds also can have holes drilled in the casing.

even worse, according to alec, they were self-shooting bullets!

Given how easy it is to create very realistic looking plastic faux brass, I would think in any scene except a closeup where the ammunition is the focus of the shot, dummy rounds could be made out of plastic.

The movie dummy rounds have fake primers. They don't go off. I read an article on this a couple of weeks ago.

They want them to look exactly like real bullets because sometimes they do a scene where someone is loading a gun.

Exactly right. They don't even have real primers. They have fake primers that look like real primers.
