18 Democrats Will Abandon the House — More than Triple GOP Needs to Win Back Majority

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) ambitions of keeping the Democrat majority in the House of Representatives past the midterm elections next year are dwindling as droves of vulnerable Democrats have announced they are leaving their current seats to either retire or seek a different office instead of fighting in a brutal reelection.

Republicans only need to net five seats to pick up the House majority after the midterms. So far, more than triple the amount of Democrats (18 total) have decided to officially call it quits on the House and have left their seats open for a fight, giving Republicans a chance to gain another seat since House Republicans only need to net five seats to gain the majority and retire Pelosi as Speaker.

Vulnerable Democrats will be facing tough reelection battles across the county, having to campaign in districts that more than likely have different lines after redistricting in addition to their having sided with President Joe Biden on many key partisan issues, as his approval numbers after only holding office for ten months have tanked.

This week, vulnerable Democrat Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY), a loyal confidant of Pelosi, was the 18th House Democrat to announce he will be leaving the House to join the crowded race for New York governor. He will be leaving behind a largely suburban district, which would be tough for Democrats to hold without a strong incumbent. This will potentially give Republicans a pickup seat in New York because Democrats have struggled to find new candidates willing to run for office.

I kinda remember expressing the sentiment years ago here that anyone who served in the Congress should be housed at the closest military installation and under guard when they weren’t in session. Barracks, chow hall food and a yellow bus to take them to their Congress every day and deposit them back to their bunk each night. No contact with the Glitteratti, no contact with fundraisers, no contact with lobbyists, and no contact with anyone who isn’t a bona fide registered constituent.

I have known a couple mafia types.
they were strictly honorable people
they had a strong code of ethics and when they gave their word or did business with you, they were always completely honest

The remaining 8 of the 10 must go. Any nominal Republican who voted with the Democrats on Jan 6 issues must go. Any who voted to censure real Republicans in the House must go.

IMO, PELOSI has plans to become VP once BIDEN is out of the picture. The President and Vice President cannot come from the same state.

In the 1980s, I worked for a small copier/business equipment outfit whose owner was "connected" with organized crime. As such, we did business with some of the bookie joints who had to print betting sheets, football betting cards and whatnot - we provided them with equipment, service and supplies to accomplish that. They always paid on time and they always paid in cash. You didn't want to mess with those guys but like you say, they were solid businessmen and they honored their business deals on a handshake basis.

Most mob-related violence was contained within their world and there was usually a good reason for it. They didn't kill just for the fun of it. They should have stayed out of narcotics however. That ended up being their downfall. Plus the kids coming up weren't as smart and didn't have the same code of ethics.

When they were getting taken down during the 1980s and 1990s, the old time mob bosses used to lament "We don't need tough guys, we need SMART tough guys!"

yes, we once purchased an item from a mafia type fellow.
the item turned out to include some defects.
the defects were so tiny and hidden inside as to have certainly been simply overlooked by the seller.
there was obviously no dishonesty or attempt to deceive.

seeing that the seller was, as usual, honest... we did not even complain. we kept the item.. some time later, the seller just casually inquired how we liked it. we weren’t going to say anything but carelessly mentioned the little defects, our mistake but it was a very casual conversation and we just weren’t careful is all

the seller INSISTED on offering a complete refund (and letting us keep the item, which was 99 percent good). We had to fight to turn down the refund.

that is how honest that old mafioso was. he just could not tolerate the thought that he had sold something defective to anybody (even though, as noted, the defects were very small and so hidden inside that it was obvious he had not done anything wrong)

yes, also, on the problems with so many of the younger generation. apparently, even mafioso were unsuccessful in raising their children... that problem being so widespread in American society....that even the tough guys in the mafia didn’t escape it

I’m hoping after pelosi loses the house again, the media reminds the world that she’s the only speaker in history to lose the house twice. She’s a huge failure. Yet the media treat her like a strong competent speaker. Frustrating!

The only thing I want the house to do from January 2023 to January 2025 is conduct three impeachment hearings on president Biden. They don’t need to pass bills that will end up being vetoed. Impeachment hearings for two years is all that’s necessary. I will consider that a success.
