The jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Travis McMichael and his father, Gregory, and their neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan.
The three men, who are white, each face charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit a felony in the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, 25, who was Black, on Feb. 23, 2020, in Georgia.
They face up to life in prison if convicted of the more serious charges.
The nearly all-white jury, which has one Black member, began deliberating the men's fate on Tuesday.
You don’t have to actually pull the trigger to be guilty of murder if you are a participant in a crime in which someone is killed. Nothing unusual there.
He was wearing Nike running shoes, not work boots. That’s not in question, it was in the trial.
I remember when this happened and FReepers were defending the McMichaels with facts. They seem to have “lost” them over time.
and it wasn’t even their property....i guess daddy is a ex cop and thought they could do what they wanted....i guess the shooter could face the death penalty....dumb ...dumb...and dumber...
Two big verdicts in a week and both of them were correct IMO. Imperfect country as it is we have a lot to be thankful for this thanksgiving. It can always be worse.
Bump...btw, I agree with you
+ 100%
I wonder...what would be if the races were all reversed...?
Of course, I would hope that the same verdict would occure.
We have to be confident in the system...right?
🤙👍🏾🤨😇
It’s worse than that - read the whole transcript when the neighbor called him.
And that's the reason they were convicted of murder. Under GA law, they can only make a "citizen's arrest" and detain the suspect if they actually witness the suspect committing a crime. On the day of the confrontation, they did not witness Arbery commit a crime, and therefore, their attempt to confront and detain Arbery was unlawful. Most significantly, as the initial aggressors, they cannot claim self-defense unless they retreat and completely disengage from the confrontation (i.e., like KR did). In my opinion, based upon the law and the facts, these dumbasses are GUILTY.
arbery was caught on security camera at least 5 times in same house
per courtv, there were 4 felonies(assault, false imprisonment, etc.) so there are 4 corresponding murder charges. Must be a GA thing.
Actually it is very similar to Kyles case.
Both Kyle and Arbery were being chased.
The difference is that Kyle was armed and kept his head…
and Arbery was not armed !
it was a law on the books
I understand that, but just being present at a murder is not a crime in itself, nor in fact is chasing someone who ends up a victim necessarily murder. The NBC article did not explain how the other 2 are guilty, and neither does this thread.
Death penalty is off the table. Life without parole for the shooter probably.
Ya gotta stop and think,...and then think again.
Discretion is the better part of valor.
But I thought that an almost all white jury was by definition racist! Yet justice has been served for the horrible death of a black man.
