Seconds after being shot by Alec Baldwin, cinematographer Halnya Hutchins told a boom operator on the “Rust” movie set, “That was no good. That was no good at all.” Hours later, she was pronounced dead.
The haunting final words of the 42-year-old mom, who had been working as the director of photography on Baldwin’s upcoming Western flick, were reported by the Los Angeles Times based on interviews with 14 crew members, emails and text messages.
A few moments earlier, Baldwin had been preparing for a shootout scene inside a church by making sure the camera crew got its angles right for the cross draw with the FD Pietta .45-caliber Colt revolver, the newspaper reported.
“So, I guess I’m gonna take this out, pull it and go, ‘Bang!’” he said as he gripped the holstered handgun, which was supposed to be loaded with dummy rounds, according to the report.

Our second amendment rights will be further restricted, while they get to continue to play with deadly weapons for our "entertainment".
“Grade school kid”
.
His personality never progressed past that point.
“Instead, a live bullet flew out of the barrel of the gun.”
My God. We are truly sunk when a “news story” describes an intentional shooting like this. He pointed a weapon at her, cocked it, and pulled the trigger. Pretty straightforward.
No
Because we play cowboys and indians and did aim toy guns at others, or at least we thought we did, god kmows if we were anywhere close or not
And we also aim nerf dart guns at others
We aim paintball guns at others
So no its not as hard and fast as you make it out to be.
This doesnt mean Alec isnt responsible or liable for what he did, and so is the armorer, who was firing live rounds out of this gun with the crew the night before, and anyone else who told Alec the gun was cold/safe.
“After she said that is no good. He then shot the other person.”
NOPE
“So no its not as hard and fast as you make it out to be.”
Yes, it most definitely is. The monumental difference being, all the examples you gave are TOYS whereas a firearm is absolutely NOT and ANY offering of an analogy between the two is inextricably innane.
Maybe Arec should “do the honorable thing”.
“You got me”
It was a magic bullet like the one that got Kennedy and Connally.
I liked “The Hunt For Red October”. Was before he became completely bat-shit crazy.
My dad taught us how to handle guns. He said, “Never aim at anything you don’t intend to shoot”.
What did happen was bad enough and is pretty clear. It is not helpful to add misdirection.
That was my thought from reading this article. No need to fire blanks in a rehearsal.
Even so, "cold gun" or not, only an idiot would cock the hammer, point the gun at a person and pull the trigger. It sure isn't rehearsing when you do that to a crew member and not an actor you're scripted to "shoot."
Umm
Doofus
You said IN YOUR POST never point a TOY GUN at anyone
One of several dozen safety violations by the crew.
Prop weapons are supposed to be unloaded during a rehersal which state is supposed to be personally verified by the Armorer immediately before any activity.
Weapons should only be loaded (with blanks) by the Armorer, and only immediately before filming begins. They are supposed to be unloaded and cleared immediately afterwards.
All weapons and ammunition are supposed to be under direct personal control of the Armorer, and stored in a secured location when not in use for filming and rehearsal.
There was no reason to permit live ammunition anywhere on this set.
The list of violations goes on to the point of tedium. And there had been at least two previous negligent discharges of firearms on that set.
Baldwin, as Producer is ultimately responsible for the negligent lack of industry-standard safety procedures, announced and enforced, and the death that resulted.
Baldwin may be a pretty good actor, but he's still an ass ....
No DA on the planet is charging Baldwin with murder or any sort of manslaughter negligent or otherwise for this.
Even in the deepest of red districts he would not be charged for this incident.
He’s an arrogant arse, but legally him pointing a prop gun he was told was safe by people who’s job it is to make sure it’s safe, isn’t going to get him a murder or manslaughter criminal charge.
Folks are smoking some good stuff if they think it will.
This leaves me speechless.
I would also add the AD, Halls, as a responsible party. I have read or listened to several directors and actors who have cited ADs as the go-between from armorer to actor who should personally show the actor the condition of the gun or call over the armorer to show the actor. It shouldn't ever be an "I say so" or an "I was told" situation.
IMO all three, the armorer, the AD and the actor/producer, Baldwin, were negligent and none of them have any excuses at all.
