Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer and injured a director during a tragic accident when a prop gun discharged on the New Mexico movie set of the film “Rust,” authorities said.

The filming location at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe was sent into lockdown and production was halted following the accidental double shooting at around 2 p.m.

“There was an accident today on the New Mexico set of ‘Rust’ involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks,” a production spokesperson told Deadline.

The Western drama’s director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, 42, and its director, Joel Souza, 48, were struck in the incident, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

Also, the bodies had unzipped pants which suggested to Kenda that they were feeling nauseous — another issue with CO.

“People have been known to commit suicide by locking themselves in a garage with a running car, windows open and a full tank.”

That’s how I’d do it.

"This wasn't a Glock semi-auto that's so dangerously prone to unintentional discharges due to it's idiotically unsafe design. "

You say this as if:

A) Glocks are the only firearms without a manual safety (they are not),

and that

B) Glocks and other firearms without manual safeties are "idiotic".

The reality is, if you are trained and responsible, they are no more dangerous than a firearm with a manual safety. The bottom line is that the firearm WILL NOT FIRE unless you pull the trigger.

"Accidental discharges" occur when someone does something stupid, like putting their finger in the trigger guard/on the trigger when drawing or handling a firearm with a chambered round and a reset trigger (true of any semi-auto pistol without a decocker, I believe, but there are plenty of people on FR who are extremely knowledgeable on the subject and can correct me if I am wrong). The "accidental discharge" is on the person handling the weapon: they should never have touched a gun without a manual safety if they were that clueless/careless. The NY Giants wide receiver (Plaxico Burris) who shot himself in the leg when he somehow pulled the trigger on his Glock, while it was in his pants, is a good example.

In the least, Mr Baldwin apparently did not practice muzzle discipline.

A misfire is when a gun doesn’t fire. Obviously this one fired with Baldwin’s finger on the trigger. I think negligent discharge would be a more accurate discription as he should have checked the gun himself and even after doing that, should never have pointed it in someone’s direction and pulled the trigger.

Yerp, I had forgotten about the unzipped pants.

Kenda is one of the only things I miss about TV. Him, Perry Mason and the Lone Ranger...and the occasional good movie on TCM...

When we were training with blanks and MILES gear in the Army, we were not supposed to shoot at someone within a certain distance (I think it was 10-20 yards). We were supposed to yell “Safety kill!” The reason: We had blank adapters plugging the barrels of our rifles, which were required so that the gas from the blanks could cycle the action. If the blank adapter (or the flash hider to which it was mounted) was not mounted correctly or damaged, you could have a pretty nasty projectile at close range.

When I heard that two people had been injured, I assumed it was a shotgun or rifle.

A revolver would make some sense, because that is what happened with Brandon Lee: A blank behind a squib from a primer-only “dummy” round.

He has that new show. It’s not about him; he only moderates. But the stories are very good.

Sounds to me that he was given a single action Colt type pistol that was supposed to be loaded with a blank and dummy cartridges. Some one probably loaded one or more live rounds in the cylinder instead. If he cocked the hammer and pointed it at the camera and pulled the trigger for the scene shot (no pun intended) that would explain how the camera person was shot in the stomach and the director behind her was struck in the shoulder by a through and through round.

I almost succumbed to LNG, I went into the beer goggle mode, somehow had the presence of mind to literally belly crawl to the sliding glass door, open it and stick my head out. After a few good lungfuls of air I went back in.

The pilot on the stove went out. Almost killed me.

I’m waiting for a Baldwin response. Now that Brian Laundrie is prounounced and I don’t have to watch the Bounty Whisperer on TV much past this week... bing-bang-boom Alec baby becomes the Needia’s headliner.

I wonder what “[fill in the blank] - pathic” behavioral swing Al is in this week, or will be come press time.

LOL. Many here are being as bad as Baldwin usually is.
I prefer to hold myself to a higher standard.

Prop guns are real weapons loaded with blanks and verified usually

Westerns use pedersoli and pietta and uberti and Colt etc remakes same as we would

And some originals too

Loaded with low charge blanks

Someone got a live round in

They do use live rounds for affect too

And on occasion a blank has wax or plastic cap over the powder and it can get stuck and when fired next it fires that at decent velocity

But that’s not what happened here

This was a live round

And photographer was looking at him for straight on shot I’d guess

Tragic

Pretty girl

......well, to get “destroyed”, you have to have a conscience.

My guess, based upon watching the man conduct himself in public for many years, is that he will get over it.

In my case, he was not accused of being “drunk” but he was only 16 and they had just somehow picked up a six pack.

Without looking to his right, he pulled out on a crossover between north and south bound I 35 lanes and in 75mph traffic. A 1963 Chevrolet Station Wagon hit them broadside. Impact was in the front passenger door. She died in the hospital an hour later. I was there when the doctor announced to the parents and my friend.........”we lost her”.

So, your right, it was not an accident.
