Facebook Decries “Gotcha Campaign”, Braces for Coordinated Hit Involving Leaked Documents, Over Thirty Reporters Being Orchestrated by PR Team

Still reeling from the coordinated hit job two weeks ago by “whistleblower” Frances Haugen who appeared on 60 Minutes days before testifying before the U.S. Senate about the social media giant’s practices, Facebook issued a statement Monday decrying a “gotcha campaign” while warning about another hit job involving leaked documents being reported by thirty journalists allegedly being coordinated by the same public relations team behind the previous hit.

Facebook’s statement was posted to Twitter:

“We expect the press to hold us accountable, given our scale and role in the world. But when reporting misrepresents our actions and motivations, we believe we should correct the record.

Over the last 6 weeks, including over the weekend, we’ve seen how documents can be mischaracterized. Obviously, not every employee at Facebook is an executive; not every opinion is the company’s position.

Right now 30+ journalists are finishing up a coordinated series of articles based on thousands of pages of leaked documents. We hear that to get the docs, outlets had to agree to the conditions and a schedule laid down by the PR team that worked on earlier leaked docs.

A curated selection out of millions of documents at Facebook can in no way be used to draw fair conclusions about us. Internally, we share work in progress and debate options. Not every suggestion stands up to the scrutiny we must apply to decisions affecting so many people.

To those news organizations who would like to move beyond an orchestrated ‘gotcha’ campaign, we are ready to engage on the substance. – John Pinette, VP Communications

Scramble as they may, I can’t really think these folks were so stupid and not think that their fraud and bias would not come out.

Put FaceBook down. It’s of no further use.

“We expect the press to hold us accountable”

Why would it? The so-called “news” media is run by the same kind of America hating pinkos that run Facebook.

All whistleblowers are not created equal. Think Blasey-Ford vs Tara Reid.

Ok, let us have all the documents, emails, etc. so we can draw fair conclusions. Transparency is a good thing, right?

Oh please. This “whistleblower” stunt is so obviously coordinated anyone who falls for it is a fool. Is it really pure coincidence that facebook released ads demanding for more internet regulation and censorship while a “whistleblower” goes on TV saying facebook needs to do more censorship, followed up with the democrats demanding something be done to make facebook censor what they don’t like. Yeah. Sure.

Let’s see how the turnkeys of Facebook jail like being in a larger Media jail.

I find their discomfiture delicious.

Yeah. Sure.

There's a really tricky legal dance going on here. The government cannot directly censor Facebook, and Facebook knows that. The government, knowing it can't directly censor Facebook, instead tries to pressure/threaten Facebook to censor itself.

Facebook responds by playing innocent and saying "you know, we'd really rather you just set the rules for us so they're "fair" (and so we don't piss off our members), knowing full well that the government cannot do exactly what Facebook is asking it to do.

Facebook sucks, but I actually think they're playing this decently. It would be much worse for us if Facebook just did all the censorship on its own, because it would be harder to challenge legally. "Asking" the government to censor them is a convoluted legal way of telling the government to F.O..

not every employee at Facebook is an executive; not every opinion is the company’s position.

It will be interesting to see who suggested what, especially considering what these scumbags consider "normal" practice.

I think the whole ‘whistleblower’ farce was set up to create ‘rules’ that could be deployed internet-wide to suppress conservative sites and platforms.

They are taking all the views and new users and frolicking on-line without twitter-like censorship.
