Texas House passes controversial transgender student athletes bill

After more than ten hours of debate, the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday night requiring transgender public school athletes to compete on teams that match their birth gender, not the gender they identify with. The controversial bill, which passed with a 76-54 vote, now goes to the state Senate.

Introduced by Representative Valoree Swanson, the measure restricts the athletes to playing on teams that match the biological sex listed on an official birth certificate issued at or close to the time of the student's birth. A modified birth certificate would only be accepted if it had been changed "to correct a clerical error," the bill states....

Critics called the legislation an "immoral and hateful bill" that attacks transgender people, and pushed back on the claims of an uptick in requests for action by the UIL, saying there haven't been any complaints.

Swanson is my rep. She does a good job for her people.

IMHO the only thing controversial about the bill is that it was needed.

Would not have even been a matter of debate as little as 10 years ago. The reality of the entire history of the human race is now "controversial" to the media and the Democrats.

The existence of radical far-left media is controversial.

As usual, the left has it exactly backwards.

I didn’t specify anyone...
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

You certainly implied that they were the Democrats opposing the bill. For crying out loud, why can’t people just say they were wrong once in awhile.?

Your words:

and no party identification is given, but for those who can see, no label is needed.

Rather than base gender on a piece of paper (birth certificate) gender should be based on a DNA test. XX is XX and XY is XY and will be so forever.

Yes I was wrong and should have been more candid.

If I read more closely I would have spotted that the label in the picture corresponded with the name of the bill’s sponsor—it would have been helpful if the label had spelled that out.

I do say that I’m wrong once in a while. Just not as often as I should.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I appreciate your reply and please know that I acknowledge having a bit of pompous righteousness for my comment in the first place. I guess we’re all a little bit flawed.

You two are my favorite kind of Freepers passionate about right and wrong but willing even if reluctantly to admit mistakes.
