Unlike other airlines which are federal contractors and subject to stricter rules when it comes to their employees’ decisions to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or not, Spirit Airlines will give employees an option to get regular COVID-19 tests—though employees will need to agree to one of the two policies.
In an email Friday, CEO Ted christie told staff that if they wanted to avoid the upcoming federal vaccine mandates for larger private companies, that they would need to get their vaccines soon, though testing would be an option when the mandate went into effect.
“The federal government has made it clear that COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements will be mandated for companies with more than 100 employees, and we will comply with that order,” Christie said in the email, which was obtained by CNBC.
The company, which had 8,700 employees at the end of 2020, does not have to follow the same rules as some of its rival airlines, such as American Airlines, JetBlue, Alaska Airlines and Southwest, all of which are federal contractors and held to a stricter standard that doesn’t give employees a testing option. Employees of those airlines are expected to comply with the rules by Dec. 8.

Never mind that there is no federal vaccine mandate.
I know there are some here who dislike the testing option, but at least people aren’t thrown on the streets while we battle these ridiculous mandates.

Airlines are federal contractors, which apparently gives the feds the power under those contracts. It’s not connected to the business mandate. At least that’s what I’m hearing from an airline pilot.
Forced testing is unacceptable.

“Regular” COVID attests are just another expensive abuse and harassment. For this fake pandemic only testing that should be done is for Covid antibodies and they should only occur every 6 months at the most.
The pilots are the only ones who can stop it but they will have to stick together. In the meantime, business will suffer, and not just airline business.

Every company just meekly submits. OSHA has NO authority to mandate employers force their employees to get an experimental drug. Someone please grow some balls and take them to court!!!
They’ll probably use cheap antibody tests and a bunch of people will get some time off due to false positives.
If you have ever flown spirit airlines, you would rather get the jab and drop dead than fly that airline ever again
It doesn’t matter if you are vaxxed or unvaxxed. You both can carry.
Our industry requires testing and every union im involved with are against mandates. The last year and half, I passed all of them. Some companies that we are heavily involved with got some of their employees to go 1099, and they were OK with it.
Biden had a press conference where he made it a law - during a press conference - yeah, he can do that! LOL
though testing would be an option when the mandate went into effect.

That could be a while as there has been no mandate published yet.
Can’t take it to court until it exists, so far it does not exist.
