"I've spoken with Xi about Taiwan. We agree ... we'll abide by the Taiwan agreement," he said. "We made it clear that I don't think he should be doing anything other than abiding by the agreement."

I have the sense from Taiwanese friends that they did not particularly like the Shang Kai Shek (forgive misspelling) corruption, but they are not friends of Red China either. I just read (Wikipedia) that ethnic Chinese people began moving there in the 1600s. The 1.5 million soldiers who came over with Shek increased the population of the island(s) by 15%. So it was already very ethnically Chinese. There are now less than 3% Formosan indigenous population, speaking 16 different non-Chinese languages that the government has a program to try to preserve.
I think at this point if you have a bone go pick with them not being indigenous Formosans, you may have a similar gripe with the USA being overrun by escapees from England and other places. Or Caribbean islands like Puerto Rico that have lost their Taino population.
The horse has left the barn.
The Taiwanese background is not pristine but they are allies of the US and anti-communists. In a rough world, the best course of action is to be a trustworthy ally and have such allies.
You’re as senile as Biden.
Given the performance of the Taiwan 50 stock index versus the Dow since Biden stole the 2020 election, people are more worried about a demented perv in the White House than they are about the Chicoms in Taiwan.
And with good reason.
Checked to make sure this was babylon bee. oh it’s not?
The Afghans are crying in their Sajji Kabab.
In 1949 we hah segregation and many other limitations on rights for blacks. We changed as a society and so have they.
He was talking about grandpop today telling some story that is probably not even true. Saw someone ask if that made him cousins with Corn Pop
No, the focus is not on the native population being smashed. It’s the false presumption of conservatives that Taiwan is filled with freedom loving democracy and deserve to be defended. That’s now what they are. They are the follow on generations of an army that took over by force and made sure their children would retain power generation after generation.
They have no oil. They have no value to the US.
If President Trump still had power he would conclude a place with no value to the US is not reason to start another war, something he was entirely opposed to from day one. If they had oil, then it’s a different matter, but it’s an island rattled by millions of years of earthquakes, that crack cap rocks that might prevent oil from escaping over those periods of time. None.
They will be a burden to China. Better them than the US.

>> What Taiwan agreement?
So asks the World including Taiwan.
Biden appeared to be referring to Washington's long-standing "one-China policy" under which it officially recognizes Beijing rather than Taipei, and the Taiwan Relations Act, which makes clear that the U.S. decision to establish diplomatic ties with Beijing instead of Taiwan rests upon the expectation that the future of Taiwan will be determined by peaceful means.
When the United States moved to recognize the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and de-recognize the Republic of China (ROC) in 1979, the United States stated that the government of the People’s Republic of China was “the sole legal Government of China.” Sole, meaning the PRC was and is the only China, with no consideration of the ROC as a separate sovereign entity.
The United States did not, however, give in to Chinese demands that it recognize Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan (which is the name preferred by the United States since it opted to de-recognize the ROC). Instead, Washington acknowledged the Chinese position that Taiwan was part of China. For geopolitical reasons, both the United States and the PRC were willing to go forward with diplomatic recognition despite their differences on this matter. When China attempted to change the Chinese text from the original acknowledge to recognize, Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher told a Senate hearing questioner, “[W]e regard the English text as being the binding text. We regard the word ‘acknowledge’ as being the word that is determinative for the U.S.” In the August 17, 1982, U.S.-China Communique, the United States went one step further, stating that it had no intention of pursuing a policy of “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan.”
To this day, the U.S. “one China” position stands: the United States recognizes the PRC as the sole legal government of China but only acknowledges the Chinese position that Taiwan is part of China. Thus, the United States maintains formal relations with the PRC and has unofficial relations with Taiwan. The “one China” policy has subsequently been reaffirmed by every new incoming U.S. administration. The existence of this understanding has enabled the preservation of stability in the Taiwan Strait, allowing both Taiwan and mainland China to pursue their extraordinary political and socioeconomic transitions in relative peace.
China wants Taiwan?
Well, we want China!
Give it to us you greedy Swim Girls!
Lol, is that Neville?
We should become side by side with Taiwan for one reason.
The complete and utter destruction of the Red Chinese totalitarian regime that is in the process of taking the whole worlds control.
Ask Australia if they made a mistake by doing business with those bastards.
I wonder if you would think it be prudent to support Japan against the Reds?
That Taiwan is a separate, sovereign nation? Sure they did.
Uh oh.
