Column: Worldwide energy shortage shows up in surging coal, gas and oil prices
Reuters ^ | September 24, 2021 | John Kemp

Record gas and electricity prices in Europe, record coal prices in China, multiyear-high gas prices in the United States and oil prices well above their real long-term average are all manifestations of the same global energy shortage.

In the aftermath of the coronavirus recession, energy production has failed to keep up with rapid growth in consumption as energy producers struggle to raise output while demand has bounced back quickly.

The business cycle downturn and slump in energy prices caused by the pandemic, and before that the U.S./China trade conflict, depressed investment throughout the energy sector in 2019/2020.

There’s only a shortage because the socialist leadership of the world CREATED ONE.

Much like how California is constantly underpowered after championing their solar and wind initiatives then feign ignorance as to why theres no power for the peasants and blame evil capitalist oil barons (who’s power they don’t purchase anyway) for the problem.

Kemp lists every possible excuse of a cause except, of course, the Primary Cause: US Government enforcement of Biden Marxist Democrat Policy worldwide.

Voting Democrat Has Consequences.

Thanks Biden, you idiot. DJT had America energy self-sufficient. Then you terminated the Keystone pipeline and begged the Saudis to increase production. They laughed in your face.

Pathetic b’std.

True. The left wants to implement gerbils running on wheels attached to generators and then they wonder why there is a shortage. Nuclear and even the biggest demon fuel of thm all coal, have modern innovations that remove the prior boogeymen.

A few months ago lumber prices were surging ... now back to normal at a third of that price. Sellers made a bundle then.

Time to think about selling energy futures when it starts hitting the news, but not quite yet ... almost ...

That’s the way commodity markets work.

We’re like the devout in India who would rather starve than butcher a cow.

Have you been following supermarket beef prices at all? Now would seem to be a great time to butcher a cow.

“That’s the way commodity markets work.”

Well said. You might, also, have added the possible dark sides of the issue though. One in that a shortage creates mass buying at premium costs, and two, is it a shortage or an invented effort advertised by those that would profit created by cancelling the source availability while placing themselves in the line of profit? An example is in the Ukraine with Burisma.

We don’t know how many people have got their hands in the pot in this country. But you can probably guess that there are a lot of natural gas and petroleum futures already in the pockets of select people that have the ability to manipulate them. And they hunt in packs so there are probably a lot of them.

The whole world is running out of food - drought in the western US, flooding in China, freezes in South America ...

Wait ‘til that becomes widely obvious.

We only have shortages when leftists run things.

In Socialism, People wait for bread.
In Capitalism, bread waits for People.
