If the didn’t have guns in Chicago they’d use spears and rocks.
The problem is not guns.
Well, at least his are prohibited in Chicago... They’ve got that going for them!
Cheese Curds
Disarm the law-abiding. That’s the ticket!
It doesn't seem to occur to investigators that the trigger has to be pulled by someone.
That does strain suspension of disbelief. I mean, the firearms shops around here - everyone is armed, even the young lady behind the cash register. Every one of the salesmen and saleswomen are open carrying. Pull out a crowbar and smash a case? You'd be lucky to get one, maybe two weapons into your backpack before being dropped. You'd never take a step, you'd die where you stand.
“My real big thing is I want to get some of the guns back,” a detective from the Superior Police Department said to the small-time crook and drug user charged in the break-in during questioning about the gun shop burglary.
Hardly a small time crook. How was he charged? Has the Chicago police any interest in charging him beyond the Wisconsin burglary?
Obviously we must ban Wisconsin.
“...to slip from the secure display case...”
Smashable glass cases are not “secure”. During off hours, small firearms can be placed in a safe (... jewelers don’t leave out trays of diamonds), and long guns at minimum can be secured with stout cables. Nothing will defeat determined thieves, but you can slow them down.
Why didn’t law enforcement and the judicial system protect the shop owner? Pure speculation: the burglar has a long arrest record, and should have been in jail or prison when the guns were stolen; possibly Chicago thugs who traveled into the hinterlands looking for easy pickings. Solution: lock them up, to secure the rights of the law abiding.
True story I heard from a police detective about doings in Topeka, KS.
On the outskirts of town a convenience store was getting robbed.
The clerk announced that he was gonna cooperate, as a matter of company policy, and was supposed to have said that he was looking down to avoid seeing the robber’s features.
He then asked if the robber wanted him to count the money he was taking.
Apparently pleased by the level of cooperation the robber allowed it but stopped the guy as he started counting the change.
The clerk then put the money in a bag, wrote the total down on a gas cash receipt and slid them over to the robber.
Who signed the receipt, took his copy and left with the cash.
After locking the door the, probably very surprised, clerk called the local PD to report an armed robbery with a signed confession.
So while it is true that criminals USUALLY will not follow a joke law like you propose it may just snag some of really dumb ones.
People don’t steal guns to use them for hammers, duh.
The gun, We’ll call him Burt for now, had been waiting in seething anticipation of the havoc he would release on an unsuspecting public. Sure there were those who deserved to be at the top of his list and soon, very soon their day would come. All it took was a kindred soul. A fellow traveler who sensed his need and his ambition. Sure Chicago might seem like small stakes (not every weapon has the chance to get in the hands of the Taliban) but Burt knew Chicago gave a good shot at proving guns could be woke and diverse. So he dreamed and waited until that fateful day when the glass broke. Freeeeeeeeedommmmmmmmm!
Politicians must be seen as “doing something.” No one ever holds their feet to the fire about that something being effective.
Alarms and video cameras don’t do a job bullets are meant for.
Without any effort at all, Taliban terrorists quickly swept 80 billion dollars worth of deadly military weapons, including pallets of ammunition and fully automatic rifles, into their shoulder bags...
community gun...
Britain has outlawed guns and now all you hear about in Parliament is "knife crime". Once knives have been outlawed the focus will be on cricket bats.
Of course ABCCBSCNNFOXNBCNPRNYTWAPO isn't going to focus on the same criminals committing these crimes repeatedly.
