Big gap between Pfizer, Moderna vaccines seen for preventing COVID hospitalizations

Amid persistent concerns that the protection offered by COVID-19 vaccines may be waning, a report released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that America's workhorse shot is significantly less effective at preventing severe cases of disease over the long term than many experts had realized.

Data collected from 18 states between March and August suggest the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine reduces the risk of being hospitalized with COVID-19 by 91% in the first four months after receiving the second dose. Beyond 120 days, however, that vaccine efficacy drops to 77%.

Meanwhile, Moderna's vaccine was 93% effective at reducing the short-term risk of COVID-19 hospitalization and remained 92% effective after 120 days.

Overall, 54% of fully vaccinated Americans have been immunized with the Pfizer shot.

The surprising findings came as a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended against offering booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine to all Americans ages 16 and older. In a striking rebuke, 16 of 18 experts told the agency it had not mustered enough data to make a third shot the norm.

Maybe the Phizer vaccine took special handling. Wasn’t it the one that had to be refrigerated? Just imagine the number of people that handled the vaccine before it got to its final destination. Wonder how much of it was spoiled before the jab.

Well, no mask for you, then. Right?

Stay well!

That’s what Harris and Biden said...as long as Trump was president.

Pfizer owns the U.S. Pharma Market whereas Moderna is a Canadian interloper. I am happy that I got the Moderna Vacine.

Just like they all got vaccinated, now in the same order they are all becoming unvaccinated. But unless over 65 they can’t get the booster.

When do they panic and start swallowing bleach and such?

I think it’s a slight variation in the way the two pharmaceutical giants are making shit up.

Creative story telling - yes. Just making s**t. up, probably not. Way too much at stake, with an overabundance of attorneys looking to get rich.

Totally handling. 100%. Couldn’t be the shots. No way no how. The previous animal studies on mRNA shots are chaff. Meaningless. Those studies where almost all the animals died from mRNA shots don’t apply here. They had plenty of time to work the kinks out.

Oh, crap... you mean this was rushed?!?!

So, from the data, 3 shots of Pfizer are no better than one shot of J&J long term, with Astra being deadly to some folks, and Moderna (3 shots) being perhaps the best bet?

Seems strange that with four choices, Pfizer managed to grab over half of the market. I would have thought the numbers would have been something like 40% Pfizer, 40% Moderna, 18% J&J, and 2% Astra.

Yeah, but Pfizer's marketing department is 98% effective at convincing politicians that there's no such thing as natural immunity and 84% effective at dissing Moderna and J&J.

“Wife and I got both Pfizer shots by the end of February. Both got the Chinese virus last month….”
**********************************************************************
Glad you both recovered well from COVID-19. Since you got it in August, the odds are you were “blessed” with the highly infectious Delta variant. You now have, with relative safety provided by your vaccinations, attained the gold standard of immunities … NATURAL immunity.

My wife and I have been vaccinated using the Moderna shots. Since then, much to my wife’s amusement, I have tried and apparently failed to get exposed to the virus to add in natural immunity. Maybe I had an asymptomatic infection but I’ll never know because I refuse to pay for an antibody test.

Again, congrats on your natural immunity.

My wife was diagnosed with COVID. She has Moderna and I have Pfizer. Hers is like a bad cold with coughing, fever and loss of taste but she’s on the upswing. Outside of some sniffles and some minor coughing and a headache the other day, i’m fine. Not going to use one of our home kits unless the symptoms increase like losing taste/smell, fever etc.

I attribute my lack of a reaction to the taking of Vitamin D3 and Zinc since this started back in March 2020. My wife will be off quarantine on Tuesday so by the end of next week I should know for sure.

congrats on your natural immunity.

This has become “Theater of the Absurd”…

Congrats on catching SmallPox after your SmallPox vaccine
Congrats on catching Rabies after your Rabies vaccine
Congrats on catching Yellow Fever after your Yellow fever vaccine
