Surprised that autocrat Morrison didn’t sign such an agreement with Red China instead.

The Aussies needed to do something after the debacle their French submarine program turned out to be. Six years into the deal and no delivery expected for another 13 years? And then they were to be worn out French nukes converted to diesel electric.
I have to think Australia would have gone this way to begin with if they could have done so. I think what's changed now is the US willingness to share the technology. We don't share sub tech with anybody but the Brits.

Morrison isn’t an autocrat.
He has virtually no control over COVID policy in Australia because of the way Australia’s constitution operates - nearly all decisions are in the hands of the state government and the Commonwealth government has no power over them. People who don’t understand Australia’s constitution seem to think Morrison is to blame for the lockdowns - he’s not. He can’t stop them.
Defence, however, is in the hands of the Commonwealth.

Yes I saw that today...Kim’s all fired up again....China likely using Kim and his fire crackers for a diversion to get the world leaders off their backs. And Assad was a guest in Putins Russia Monday.....I’ve often said watch where they’re going and who they’re seeing.
Kims slimmed down allot....likely had to or die.

Hmmmm. Perhaps this is a silver lining to the dark cloud Joe Biden has cast over alliances. The entire Aussie continent becomes a nuclear sub base.

China has a real problem on its hands.
It rattle its saber to the point all the nations in its
region are preparing for war.
Dumb asses...

He can if the state premiers are violating national law. No, he can't. The Australian states are sovereign in their domains.
The Australian constitution was written by the Australian states (although they were still called colonies then). They quite deliberately kept the powers they wanted completely in their control.

I am really surprised - and really happy - that the Morrison government is committing to nuclear submarines for Australia. How long does it take to build competent crews?

The Western nations handling of COVID doesn’t exactly make them symbols of liberty at this point.
The contest with China is real enough but I think not in terms of Freedom in the West versus Tyranny in China isn’t the AUKUS alliance more like Oceania and China and Russia like Eurasia.
Its beginning to seem like 1984 to me.

Morrison, Johnson and Biden are Oceania.
Putin and Xi Jinping are Eurasia.
We could be witnessing Orwell’s fiction emerging as fact.
