The 12-ton, 21ft bronze General Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond, Virginia, was removed at 9am
The statue is the largest Confederate monument in Virginia and the largest Confederate statue in the country
It was erected in 1890 in honor of Lee, a prominent slave owner and revered Confederate Army general
Last year, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced it would be brought down in light of the BLM movement
A time capsule that has been in the statue's base for 131 years will be replaced by a new one
The new capsule contains 39 'artifacts' including a BLM sticker, a 'Virginia is for lovers' Pride sticker, an expired COVID vaccine and pictures from a Stop Asian Hate Protest
Richmond Police closed the roads surrounding the statue and fenced it off ahead of the removal
Pedestrians were allowed to watch it from a viewing area on Monument Avenue; they chanted, cheered and sang as it was taken down
Senate Republicans in Virginia and some residents wanted to stop it from being torn down; they say the monuments are part of the state's history
Another statue of Lee in Charlottesville was brought down in July - that was the site of the Unite the Right rally in 2017
Since 2020, 160 Confederate statues, school names and monuments have been removed across the US
The Southern Poverty Law Center says there are still some 2,000 'symbols' still standing across the US

Traveler too!?!?
Have you ever heard that phrase “what goes around comes around”? Maybe it’s just a Southern thing.
My wife is a direct descendant to Robert E Lee.....he will always have a place of honor in our home!!!!
How wonderful. If a CW statue is removed/destroyed, it means the CW never happened, right?
Michael Savage.
Kind of like 1950 in China...
What about Senator Robert Byrd?
Here’s an excerpt from the conservative publication Slate from June 30th, 2010 eulogizing Senator Byrd.
“ Robert Byrd, the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, died Monday at 92. While he was most famous as a master of the Senate’s obscure rules, Byrd wore many hats during his lifetime, including that of Exalted Cyclops in the Ku Klux Klan. What are the job responsibilities of an Exalted Cyclops?
He presides over the Council of the Centaurs and writes quarterly reports to the Grand Giant. In the Klan hierarchy, each local chapter, or Klavern, is led by an Exalted Cyclops. This member is typically elected by his fellow Klansmen and serves a one-year term. According to the original 1867 Prescript of the Ku Klux Klan, the Exalted Cyclops reports to a Grand Giant, or provincial leader; a Grand Dragon, or state director; and the Grand Wizard, or national chair. Below the Cyclops on the org chart were the Grand Magi, the Grand Monk, the Grand Exchequer, the Grand Turk, and, finally, the rank-and-file members known as Ghouls or Knights. (Many of these titles have changed over time, and most of the sub-Cyclops ranks have been eliminated.) The Exalted Cyclops’ responsibilities include presiding over Klavern meetings, initiating new members, and appointing Councils of Centaurs—that’s Klan-speak for a jury—to try and punish wayward Ghouls.‘
I suppose we’ll be seeing West Virginia making some serious name changes next week, right?
FYI-Yes, calling Slate conservative is parody.
Government education brainwashing the idiots we see today
And everyone lived happily ever after.
Interesting reference to the Lee's but I didn't see anything suggesting that Robert E. Lee ever purposefully acquired slaves of his own.
Not sure that it matters. Whatever Lee's association with slavery it did not disqualify him in the eyes of the Great Emancipator who unsuccessfully recruited Lee to attack people in the South.
When that did not work for Lincoln he turned to others who had associations with slavery to do the work. Grant comes to mind.
“Lee did not own slaves, did he??”
Was that Kool Aid your favorite flavor?
Why does that matter? Slavery existed on this earth in almost every society since the dawn of history.
It was the United States and England who rid the world of most of it.
Lee happened to be born into a world that sanctioned slavery. He fought for his state, not slavery.
There, fixed it for ya.
“Lee did not own slaves, did he??” “He did for most of his life, both his own and those his wife was given or inherited.”
This isn’t accurate, but no surprise considering the source.
If he had owned slaves they would show up in census records. You don’t see DoodleDawg posting those records. Guess why.
Lee’s mother Ann owned six slaves at the time of her death in 1829. Ann listed the slaves she bequeathed to her daughter. There is no record of her bequeathing any to Lee or his two older brothers. In 1829 Lee had just graduated from West Point to begin his Army career.
Lee was an Army officer the majority of his life. He moved around the country, didn’t own a farm, had no need for slaves, and there is no record of him buying any. If there was a record of any you’d sure be seeing their names.
His wife, the g-grandaughter of Martha Washington, inherited her father’s slaves and property upon his death in 1857. Her father’s will made Lee the executor of the estate, and instructed Lee to emancipate the slaves within five years of GW Parke Custis’ death. The Arlington estate was in debt, and the debtors could claim the slaves if the debts were not paid off. So they weren’t freed right away, but were by 1862 when the debts were extinguished. A year before Lincoln’s emancipation order.
When does Year “0” (Zero) start?
>>This is a travesty. Anyone who thinks it stops with Lee or the confederacy is clueless.<<
Absolutely correct. Once all the Southern monuments to brave Confederates are taken down, they will come for even more historical monuments.
This isn’t about the South, it is about erasing American history so they may revise it, pervert it and brainwarsh the young with marxism, communism or what the hell ever ism.
I honestly never thought this day would come.
Just thought of something.
They can now make the Confederate statues wildly popular again. Use them all in the magician-cutting-the-statue-in-half Las Vegas magic shows. Bigger draw than Wayne Newton or the Blue Man Group.
>>...how much blood shall He demand be paid for that spilled by the abortionist’s scalpel from sixty-five million innocents?!<<
Have mercy Lord God...Mercy on our nation! Raise up leaders who turn their faces toward you Father. Restore this nation.
For the sake of Your Son’s sacrifice.
Sad but also enraging for later pushback. Not now.
First they got rid of the Confederate Flag because it was a Reminder Of Slavery. So were the monuments, of course, so they got rid of them, too. Then the old movies. Then the old books. They wiped out everything connected to your heritage and your history.
When it was all gone you asked, “Is that enough? Are there any other Reminders Of Slavery that we have to get rid of?”
And they said, “Yes. You.”
This is so sad. I don’t even want to see pics.
