Henri formed in the mid-Atlantic. After initially following a loopy southward and westward track, Henri is forecast to move northward toward New England.

....but many forgot that you need a few days supply of fuel.
After three days, the lines for gasoline became like a junior high school jocks vs burnouts face-off. I remember the line for gas at the first rest stop turning off the GWB onto the Palisades Parkway was ugly. I drove past they mayhem, thankful for my Boy Scout "Be Prepared" training.
Think a few days ahead of where everyone else is thinking, and you'll be fine during the Collapse of Western Civ...hopefully it'll be televised.
The Great South Bay is also sailboat paradise.
I don’t think those nuclear facilities were around during the big 1938 storm. Let’s hope they can handle a Catergory 1-2 hurricane.
Wise words...good advice.
YUP.
One solution is to buy propane generators. No gasoline storage worries. I used propane during hurricane Sally last year that I bought in 1999 for Y2K.
Agree! This year's purchase was a couple of 30lb propane tanks. Loving the dual fuel generator. Haven't used gasoline yet. There's a little loss of wattage output with propane, but the advantages far outweigh the minimal power loss compared to gasoline.
Just test ran for the first time my duel fuel generator on propane here in southern NH. I bought the generaator a few years ago, and ever since I bought it, it successsfully prevented the power companey from losing power to my house. Funny how that works.
Ha! Same here last year. Predicted the new generators/inverters would be the best investment for keeping storms away.
We got a Westinghouse 3700W dual fuel with inverter and an EGO battery powered 2000W inverter. The Westinghouse is wonderfully quiet, tested by roasting coffee beans. The EGO inverter is silent, and appropriate for indoor use during storms.
That was back in 2005, but to this day i keep in a supply of water and non-perishable food...just in case.
Texting error— know all about the oscillation as does friend Bastardi. But perhaps not many here do, who rely on far less skilled forecasters. Next 12 hours will be diagnostic.
Been through a lot more than your “imaginings”.. and that is the point. Way more experience and speaking from that position— decades of major hurricanes in our family’s lives woven in with our survival and rebuilding. Can’t expect you to know that or from a naval career at sea.
I’ve been through a few. Real bad ones. I hope people are prepped in NE. Even if it’s a nothing event (we will see) it’s good to prep. If it’s a bad event then you are happy that you prepped but you will make a mental list of stuff you forgot to get.
Prayers up for all those facing storms and other hardships.
A decrease in forward speed and a slight bend to the left
is forecast to occur on Sunday...

About 395 MI S of Montauk Point NY
Max Sustained Winds...75 MPH

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 45 miles.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles from the center.
"The weather service warned of the potential for damaging winds and widespread coastal flooding from Henri, and officials in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York cautioned that people could lose power for a week or even longer."
Pretty sure things are quiet here today because those in Henri's path are rushing preps to completion. I've heard from multiple folks in NE who report their electricity regularly goes out during "a sun shower" and the like. I surely hope people are prepared for several days off the grid.
Look for big media to talk how bad this storm was and the climate change blah blah blah all next week instead of Afghanistan
All the major network news outlets are based in NYC, and the prime time news readers live either on Long Island or in CT. Henri is headed to the center of their universe.
Did you see the size of the storm field? Tropical storm force winds out 150 miles from the center. A whole lotta stately New England trees are going to get blown around.
I have the same luck. I prefer to look at it as the Universe rewarding me for being prepared. Further, no good deed goes unpunished. You know it, I know, we all know it but we do it anyway.
