Toyota Motor will reduce its global production for September by 40% from its previous plan, Nikkei has learned.
In its latest plans formed in July, the automaker had been aiming to build a little under 900,000 automobiles for the month, but that number has been reduced to about 500,000 units as the global chip crunch affects supply chains.
The delta outbreak across Southeast Asia has also impacted the company's procurement of auto parts.
The production cut, which will amount to about 350,000 units, means the automaker will temporarily suspend production lines at multiple domestic factories, including its Takaoka plant in Aichi Prefecture, starting early next month. Production in North America, China and Europe will likely be scaled back by tens of thousands of units.

Local Toyota dealer has only 9 new cars on its lot. Chip shortage or shipping backlog.
The other auto companies will follow. Hold on to your cars. Keep them in good repair.
You haven’t seen anything yet. Wait till china invades Taiwan. Chip production will halt for a time at least.
Is the chip shortage driven by bitcoin data mining using all the chips? If so, it seems like we are sacrificing wealth creation through manufacturing cars in deference to digital wheel-spinning.
You are absolutely right. The end result of free trade will be manifest shortly.
I hope to order the suspension kit for my 65 jeep before Labor Day.
Guess this payday, a spare aftermarket ignition module along with some other misc parts get ordered.
Anyone else suspicious of the timing of this...
Americans cannot buy cars because there aren’t enough on the lots and not a peep out of Congress.
No hearings, no investigations, nothing.
Americans’ freedom of movement is being further restricted and Congress isn’t the least bit curious as to why.
Go figure.
“Keep them in good repair.”
If you can get parts. We may have to emulate the mechanics in cuba.
And one other bone to pick:
Deep State, if you’re so ******* green, why are cars allowed to have moon/sunroofs?
Can’t find a bigger car on a lot without one these days.
The damn things are less safe in certain crashes, cost more money, and ding your gas mileage.
But not a peep out of all those greenies in Congress.
Go figure.
My Tacoma is about due another 5k service.
Either I need nothing or I need a few things. Depends on the visit.
Overall. I think the dealership service department is pretty honest.
The old stuff I can work on. This modern era is but beyond me and I don’t have the robotic tiny hands that built it.
“65 jeep”
You should be able to keep that thing running with paperclips and bailing wire shouldn’t you? Lol
Good thing my old Tacoma will last another 20 years. I don’t need a new vehicle.
Suggest you hang on to your Taco my friend...my 2009 was the 2nd best vehicle I ever owned. Only reason I sold it was I wanted a 4x4.
The message is “save the money you were going to spend on a new car and use it to pay higher prices at restaurants so we can keep bringing more illegals and hire them after they commit identity theft to get on an American payroll”, but that was too long to fit in a headline.
Took a vehicle in for a new battery - vehicle had been jumped so I needed to leave it, left it running outside. I was told that there were no “appointments” for at least a week (’the usual’ was to get it back same day or the next with no appointment) .... when I inquired what was going on, the CS rep said that there were no new vehicles available, people were fixing what they had & business was booming for their mechanics.
Side note, that particular CS rep is an @ss ... the one I usually deal with came by, saw me ... “just leave your truck and I’ll work it in” (while the @ss sat there & smirked at me) ... and he did (I got it back in 2 days). When I had a similar conversation with him, he said they had gotten in a few new trucks, but the lot was full with used cars, not new. Fortunately, all our vehicles are in good shape & should still last a long time. The bad ... lots of electronics (except for our 21 yo PU we use for ‘dirty’ work like going to the dump) so if there’s an electronic issue & can’t get it fixed, we might be screwed there.

You forgot ...leak air and water, and they can get stuck open when they break down.
When I get it back together the right way or close, sure.
It has some age related problems.
After suspension, transmission is next. Some bad bearings. It can be heard for half a mile when gear. Reman T90s are out there. I was never a transmission guy.
At least the tub is off. I know a guy who builds dirt track race cars so I should be able to recruit him to help me out.
I plan to.
The last time it was getting service pulled, my wife got a few phone calls from the sales department of the dealer wanting to buy it.
If my old CJs or Blazer were operational, I might have considered it.
