The original police in New York were a subscription service. They wore uniforms and the various companies rioted over control of the various neighborhoods. The city stepped in and made them all employees.

One of the services the Mafia provided was protection. If someone robbed a business under Mafia protection that robber often was never heard from again.

Sounds like it was a lynching, yes. I do know what can happen if you try to report someone for “touching little girls” or whatever - even if you actually saw him doing it AND he bragged about it. It can be frustrating and you might even conceivably lose your life if the girl-toucher happens to be rich or influential. However, according to the article, the guy could barely move and was neither rich nor influential.
Somebody might have tried to rob him and since he was so frail, it killed him. Hoping to muddy the waters and stall an investigation, he writes a bunch of accusations on the man’s body. (Just a theory.)
And when prosecutors and courts keep letting the bad guys go.

Because idiots like you, with no knowledge of the background of the deceased, immediately ASSUME whatever crimes this person may have committed are legitimate and justified his death.
If I lived in your world, Justice Kavanaugh and countless others falsely accused of crimes would have met the same fate decades ago...........
For what it's worth dude, back in 2005 there was an employee at my plant who was arrested for allegedly molesting the girlfriend of his daughter. Arrested, arraigned and thrown in jail with the ultimate insult of the female judge calling him a pedophile monster.
Your mentality would have excused the same treatment of this employee had it happened as your excusing the unjustifiable death of the person in this article.
Fortunately for our employee, you weren't the final arbiter of justice since he ultimately was found innocent of the charges after it was discovered that the alleged victim had lied at the urging of the ex-wife who was attempting to regain custody of the daughter who was living with her father, the employee.......
