The original police in New York were a subscription service. They wore uniforms and the various companies rioted over control of the various neighborhoods. The city stepped in and made them all employees.
I think we’re going back to subscription police.
One of the services the Mafia provided was protection. If someone robbed a business under Mafia protection that robber often was never heard from again.
At least the Mafia delivered what you paid for..................

And in NY, during the 90’s, Gotti made sure the area around the Bay Ridge was as peaceful as his goons could make it. There just wasn’t a lot of crime where his family lived.
