18 arrested, including pastor, in Middle Tennessee human trafficking operation, TBI says

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agents said 18 men, including a Tennessee National Guard chaplain and local pastor, have been arrested in a human trafficking operation in Middle Tennessee last week.

The two-day operation in Spring Hill yielded 18 men being arrested on various charges linked to a fake online sex ad.

Investigators said the undercover operation started June 8 and focused on addressing human trafficking in Middle Tennessee. Authorities placed several decoy advertisements on websites known to be linked to prostitution and commercial sex cases.

Investigators were hoping to identify and recover possible victims of sex trafficking and sought to identify those seeking sexual acts with minors.

...One of those arrested includes, Matthew Brewer, who is listed online as a pastor in Centerville. Spring Hill Police also confirm to FOX 17 News that Brewer is a chaplain and major in the Tennessee National Guard.

"The Tennessee Military Department is aware of the recent arrest of a Tennessee National Guardsman and are fully supporting and assisting civil law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. The charges made in this incident do not reflect or meet the standards of the Tennessee National Guard or the Army Values." - Tennessee National Guard

Fairfield Baptist Church released the following statement:

"Our Fairfield Baptist Church family was shocked and saddened with the situation this past weekend involving our youth minister. We are prepared to work with law enforcement if asked and, like many others, are hoping to receive information from law enforcement that will help us better understand all the details.

The content of what was shared with us is not aligned with our Biblical values. We met with our church family Sunday to share what little we knew, and our youth minister has been suspended indefinitely from his duties and the church campus pending court proceedings.

We ask that people would pray for the Brewer family and the church family and anyone else involved as we work through what's happened." -The Leadership of Fairfield Baptist Church

The pastor and chaplain did not study all the Bible:

It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

What beats me is how come folks think they can’t get caught. Come on, there are so many incidents like this coming out, one must realize the chances of getting caught are like 90%

You should be more concerned about your involvement with that false, works-based salvation, religion called the Church of Rome.

I’ll bet the church is wondering that and I’ll bet the police are wondering that as well

There are a lot of folks out there who hide their true identity behind the curtain of religion.

So by getting johns they are trying to find the whereabouts of those being prostituted? How does that work?

All 18 were arrested for patronizing prostitution from a minor.

From another article from a TN TV station:
Newschannel 5 did receive the arrest warrants for two of the suspects, Ahmeti Mentor and Adam Weber. The warrants say the man paid the undercover officers posing as minors $120 and $140 to engage in sexual activity both acknowledging they wanted to sleep with someone under age.

Whitwell says all the suspects were from out of town and many are not first time offenders.

In case you were curious how they did this, they perps had actually met with undercover agents posing as underaged prostitutes, and got what they deserved. From the pictures and names the perps are a wide range of races and nationalities. And they were not from the local area, I’m too lazy this morning to dox the people to see where they came from.

Cause they’re not thinking with their big head.

Should they have let the Youth Pastor around the Youths while the case was being litigated?

Pedophiles go where the children are - church youth groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, summer camps, etc.

99.9% of the problem could be solved by hiring only women to work with children. Anyone who hires a male babysitter is INSANE.

While I share your concerns m I think that is harsh on men who are good with kids and aren’t paedophiles.

"Works-based religion"?

Easily proven false. The propositions that one is saved by works, and that anyone is saved apart from grace, are condemned by both Trent and II Orange.

Love rejoices in the truth, according to the Bible. Maybe you should try it.

Kids need a balance of men and women working with them otherwise you have a product similar to what the current public school system is churning out: men-hating, overmedicated kids.

Unfortunately, the pool's been tainted with thinking like yours to the point that good men do not dare work with children lest they be accused of something they'd never ever consider doing. I love kids but the deck is stacked against me to work with them in any normal way. They need a balance.

Just another story and a disturbed person to give organized religion a bad name.

One of my old neighbors was a cop. Early in his career, he worked undercover with stings all over town. One assignment was called “bathroom duty”. They set up shop in one of the cities large parks. It contains a few small buildings housing bathrooms. They’re had been reports about men approaching other men/boys of all ages and creeping people out.

So they set up a sting. Basically, he’d drive up, park, and go into the bathroom and wait. I can’t remember the number he mentioned each day, but they arrested over a dozen during the duration of the sting. Once the word got out, the incidents dropped to nothing. He said at first, it didnt take 15 minutes before the first guy showed up. I asked him how this worked and he said most didn’t even say anything. Most of them open the stall door and drop their pants without saying a word.

Once arrested, they’d plead and beg to be let go. Anyone and everyone, different backgrounds and professions. They used a website to identify places to hook up. The park was on there, as was the bathroom at the local JC Penny’s in the mall.

There are some things a church can do to at least help with this situation. I am a senior pastor and have been for a long time.

Before becoming a senior pastor, I was a children’s pastor for several years. I implemented a policy on my own: No male (including myself) is allowed to be alone with any child at any time.

I made sure all the parents were aware of that. The first parent to drop their child off in the children’s church area had to wait until there were at least two kids.

It was my preference to have at least two adults in a classroom, but it’s really difficult at times to get just enough volunteers to meet the minimum.

It was very rare for me to have just one or two kids, but I would send everyone to the bathroom at the same time if one asked to go, and it left me alone with one child.

I never had any intention of messing with a lid, but you have to avoid the appearance of impropriety. It’s just the right thing to do, because some folks like to gossip and cause problems. That’s another sermon, though.
