Supermarkets are stocking up on everything from sugar to frozen meat before they get more pricey, girding for what some executives anticipate will be some of the highest price increases in recent memory.
Some supermarkets said they are buying and storing supplies to keep their shelves full amid stronger demand. Grocery sales in the U.S. for the week ended June 19 rose about 15% from two years earlier and increased 0.5% from a year earlier, according to Jefferies and NielsenIQ data.
Stockpiling by food retailers is driving shortages of some staples, grocery industry executives said, and is challenging a U.S. food supply chain already squeezed by transportation costs, labor pressure and ingredient constraints.

We went with these, though they may be hard to find
Lumber is still expensive here in the SF Bay Area. A couple days ago bought some 2x12x12 treated for $39 each. I needed 2x12x8 and no supplies could be found, besides that they were priced at $43 each. So I bought the longer boards for a cheaper price, and the store cut them for free. Crazy. I can still make use of the leftover 4ft pieces.
Could they be telling “just-in-time” to stick it?
I’m seeing the same in N. California, and so are our relatives/friends across America.
Some frozen foods like tater tots and sweet potato tater tots are missing. What we are seeing is a lot of movement from one shelf to a different shelf in a different part of the store.
I’ve not seen price increases. There’s as much food as before and as many eaters. Just as much TP being made and just as many butts that need wiping.
Made-up non-crisis.
Yup—you know the Democrats are gonna start talking about how rationing is “patriotic”....just a matter of time....

Normalcy bias.
I don’t use a special rubber template materiel made by 3M. They’ve cut down the number of rolls they’ll ship to us because of ‘scarcity of raw materiel’. That sounds fairly ominous to me…don’t understand it.
Made a trip to town today and observed a couple of interesting inventory issues.
The WalMart knife counter has received 3 items from this time last week. Now there are only 57 empty displays instead of the 60 noticed last week.
The Aldi Freezer and refrigerated sections are starting to show signs of fewer choices.
I do use feckin iPhone
Let’s see here, what do we have? Rising inflation. Increasing scarcity of goods and services. Groups promoting racial disparity and hatred. Party/government people going door to door for “persuasion” purposes. Where have we seen this before?
Lies, gas lighting and a coupla lies in there. WSJ is crap. Dont post this crap from WSJ.
We’re still limited to 3 cans of corn or whatever the item.
Storerooms are not getting bigger so where are these stores storing extra stuff?
The government is pumping free money into EBT accounts so the slugs are buying everything in sight...
Saw on the local news there is an up tick in bicycle theft and repair parts are made in China. Is there one thing not made in China?
Ha.....and, that’s from your hi-rise balcony, right?
Kidding.
Yes....it WILL be rough for those living in urban areas, when fit hits the shan.
so the slugs are buying everything in sight...
Like the ones at the Neiman Marcus San Francisco store?
Last year, there were over 50 geese. This year just a dozen. Hate to think someone killed so many.
