Hurricane Elsa
NHC/NOAA ^ | 1 July 2021 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 07/01/2021 2:41:54 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Tropical Storm Elsa has developed in the central tropical Atlantic Ocean, about 2500 miles east of the U.S. mainland. Interests in Florida should monitor updates to the forecast for this system, but it is too soon to determine what, if any, impacts could occur there next week given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.Elsa is moving at a rapid clip, which may limit strengthening in the short term. Also, the potential interaction of the storm with the mountainous land masses of the Greater Antilles later in the forecast period could disrupt the circulation somewhat.

Media goons are salivating at the thought, and discussing the possibility with each and every update from the building collapse site.

While I may not totally disagree with you here, a hurricane or even a moderate tropical storm in this area is a very legitimate concern for the search and rescue teams.

Torrential rains and even minimal TS force winds could further destabilize not only the pancaked and unstable rubble pile but also the part of the building still left standing that from what I understand, some engineers have expressed concern that that may be soon to collapse.

Rest assured, the Florida state and local governments, rescue teams, and engineers are all receiving frequent updates on the stability of the Miami disaster site, as well as frequent local weather forecasts. This is the rainy thunderstorm season in Florida. Rescue teams have been dealing with daily t-storms for more than a week.

As a matter of fact, the National Hurricane Center is strategically located in Miami.

The media goons seek to capture an audience. They are not the purveyors of safety information to those actively and tirelessly working the disaster site.

I like the NHC's current track as it hits just about every land mass it can find between now and Florida.

Still watching those GFS ensembles, though: it's pulled back toward the East a bit, but no reason to let guard down on any point in the Eastern Gulf coast yet. The difference appears to be when the GFS starts to turn the storm... it's about 100 miles west of the NHC when it passes Gitmo... we'll know in 3 days.

Let's see if this can wall-off Alabama and Georgia... if so, the NHC will probably be right.

The "Earth" wind map animation shows winds to the northeast of the eye at 116KM (72 Miles)/Hr at 11 AM CST.

(You may have to view at full screen, because the storm is 'way to the east of the Gulf Coast...)

You are welcome Lois, that's Lois Lane. I noticed the navy has this thing going over Cuba and not losing any strength at all which seems unusual to me.Looks like it is slowing some down to 24 knots which is still cranking. Hard to imagine anything getting stronger at that forward speed but you never know.
Its pretty much pointing at us first and Tampa/St.Pete or just north after that.It does slow down some near cuba.

Too bad the NOAA losers can’t get their equipment fixed!! We still have nothing 50-60 miles south of Fowey off miami. Not until you get to Marathon do you have a working buoy on the reef.Unacceptable.!!Same thing last year, just insane.

Infrastructure! It doesn’t provide child care, but it sure sounds like infrastructure as we used to know it.

"Good graphic. Thanks for posting link."

You're very welcome -- thank YOU for these marvelous threads!

(BTW, "Windy" keeps giving me bogus wind velocities in the storm...)

(Like the previous link, CLICK inside the storm to get pinpoint wind velocity.)
