Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) was met with boos while attending a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday in Milwaukee, Wisc., WDJT reported.
According to WDJT, the Republican senator was heckled by crowd members while speaking to reporters.
At one point during the video, a bystander can be heard saying "We don't need you out here."
The resistance to Johnson comes after the lawmaker issued a statement objecting to making Juneteenth a nationally recognized holiday earlier this week.
“Last year, a bill was introduced to celebrate Juneteenth by providing an additional paid holiday for 2 million federal employees at a cost of $600 million per year. They attempted to pass the bill without debate or amendment process,” Johnson said.
“Although I strongly support celebrating Emancipation, I objected to the cost and lack of debate. While it still seems strange that having taxpayers provide federal employees paid time off is now required to celebrate the end of slavery, it is clear that there is no appetite in Congress to further discuss the matter. Therefore, I do not intend to object,” he added.
However, the senator later dropped his objection.
Juneteenth, celebrated every year on June 19, recognizes the day in 1865 when Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger issued General Order No. 3 in Galveston, Texas, emancipating the remaining enslaved people in the state. For enslaved people in Texas at the time, freedom came more than two years after former President Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) introduced a bill to recognize Juneteenth in their respective chambers last June, but it didn't gain momentum.
The bill was later reintroduced in February, and it was taken up by Congress this week. The Senate on Tuesday passed the legislation by unanimous consent, and later, the House passed the bill Wednesday.
On Thursday, President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law. However, Biden noted that “it’s not - it’s simply not enough just to commemorate Juneteenth.”
“After all, the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans didn’t mark the end of America’s work to deliver on the promise of equality, it only marked the beginning. To honor the true meaning of Juneteenth, we have to continue towards that promise because we’ve not gotten there yet,” Biden said.
WDJT reported that Johnson also attended a similar celebration in Kenosha on Saturday.
On Twitter, Johnson said that he was dedicating the first Juneteenth holiday to Pastor Jerome Smith.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Smith worked with Johnson to create the a faith-based program that connects people with job opportunities. He died from coronavirus complications in April.
Yet the “hard working and outspoken” senator voted for the usurpation of a “holiday”.
“....To honor the true meaning of Juneteenth, we have to continue towards that promise because we’ve not gotten there yet,” Biden said.

Americans can forget ever “getting there” because the Dems are more than willing to milk the cash cow that is grievance for all eternity. The slow death of the US continues.
A man is known as much by his enemies as his friends.
Johnson is one of the good ones. You can count them on one hand
The way I look at this, Johnson opposed making Juneteenth a federal holiday out of modesty.
After all, if it weren’t for white Republicans like Johnson, blacks would never have been told that we gave them their freedom.
But since today is now a federal holiday, all of America ought to take the time to reflect on how Republicans freed the slaves.
You’re welcome.
Yet the “hard working and outspoken” senator voted for the usurpation of a “holiday”.
Instead, they should vote for a dem who will be sure to keep blacks disadvantaged and in neighborhoods with gangs, shootings, drugs and abortion clinics. Oh, yeah, and burning the neighborhoods down in BLM riots while they strip police protection away.
In short, boo Ron Johnson and vote for a party that is dedicated to extinguishing blacks and can afford to (in their minds) because they are replacing them with endless illegals from the Southern Border.
If Johnson doesn’t run again then they may get their wish !
I would be concerned if he were booed at the Sausage Festival.
“I refuse to celebrate juneteenth just as I refuse to celebrate Kwanzaa.”
Juneteenth and Kwanzaa have nothing to do with each other. Juneteenth is real.
I don’t celebrate Labor Day but I take the day off when it’s given.
“...dem who will be sure to keep blacks disadvantaged a... .”
because they are comfortable with only what they know. They don’t know change. They are afraid of uncertainty, of not having that hand-out.
“Juneteenth, celebrated every year...”
That’s a lie. Few ever even heard of the moronic-sounding Juneteenth until a few years ago when the left started making a big deal out of it in their effort to downgrade the 4th of July.
Worthless federal holiday.
Dems know how to buy votes
“We don’t need you out here.”
++++++++++
That’s kind of what I figured, and that’s why I won’t be acknowledging the holiday.
They live in the past, with slavery as a comfort pillow. Therefore, they’ll have no future.
It is tough for me to understand why anyone would boo Senator Johnson. He is one of only a handful of folks working against voter fraud.... what am I missing?
Even the best of the political lot cower in the face of the cultural cleansers, lest they be labelled “ racists “.
