Armed visitor holds off Monument Circle robbers

Dawson Day said he doesn’t visit downtown Indianapolis much because of its reputation for crime and a perceived lack of safety.

“I feel like there’s always something going on around there. It’s just like constant crime all the time and I think its best if people stay away from there, honestly,” he said.

George Stergiopoulos has his hands full opening a new location at Bottleworks just off Massachusetts Avenue, but he came in early Sunday morning to scrap food and melted cheese and debris off the windows of his restaurant near Monument Circle.

“Just vandalism, some of the locals just rubbed food all over the window, just threw cooked food all over the floor, just a mess,” he said. “We’re constantly cleaning something down here.”

For every positive note about a convention coming to town, a new restaurant opening or a visitor returning, the reality is, for many, downtown Indianapolis remains an unsafe and dirty place.

“It’s always a mess. It smells and garbage always on the sidewalk, something has to be done,” said Stergiopoulos. “The leadership has to do something in this community.”

What they go out of their way to avoid is that this all started with the summer of love and BLM last summer. Indianapolis is a "blue" city run by an entrenched Democratic city council and mayor that do NOTHING and, like other blue cities, are cutting back on police and not punishing crime and the city is collapsing because of it.

They’re liberals. They are incapable of admitting that their support of these policies is what caused all of this. For them, it’s supposed to be nothing but a liberal love fest of lollipops, rainbows and unicorns.

Are there any Conservative, Patriotic American-run major cities in this country anymore? Personally, I can’t think of a single one. The people who live in our major cities have gotten EXACTLY what they have voted for. Before they whine they need to look in the mirror to see the root cause problem.

“George Stergiopoulos has his hands full opening a new location”

What was he thinking? He should be moving out of town or state.

And Marion County people are flocking out of the city. Many are going north to Hamilton County. We sold my dad’s property last year and it lasted 6 days on the market.

I live in southern Indiana and refuse to go to Indianapolis because of the crime. And I will say it, it is because of blacks committing the crimes.

Some People elected the wrong peeps.

I'm seriously beginning to question how many of them really are legitimately elected. "Motor-Voter" bloated the voter rolls with millions of people who never had any intention of voting, each name a potential stuffed ballot, a list that grows ever larger as the dead and those who moved are never purged from the lists.

When you see 90+% turnout that is 98% Dem in neighborhoods where you couldn't get them to vote even with an offer for a free chicken dinner and complimentary quart of malt liquor.

I guess last summer really made a huge change since my only visit to Indy in 2015 for a conference at the Convention Center. My wife and I stayed at the Westin (then a Marriott) across from the Convention Center and walked around nearby to visit the Weber Grill restaurant, Circle Centre Mall, and other locations. We also did a Segway tour from White River State Park through the Central Canal area. Never saw anything like what other FReepers are posting in this thread. Really sad...

It is my city destroyed by the riots and liberal politics. I have only been to the city a few times since the riots. Once to visit an optician and a couple of times to visit a favorite jeweler. The jewelry store was wiped out of merchandise during the two nights of riots in May 2020. The main downtown CVS was burned out and is closed. The yearly convention we visited, PRI, was cancelled due to Covid. The city has nothing for families to go there for other than to eat or drink. The Circle Center Mall is closed. There are no shops around the Circle or along Washington Street. Parking meters have no free after hour times anymore and the meters are difficult to use. We have no reason to visit Indianapolis downtown anymore. We figure the new inhabitants of the many apartment complexes being built will fill the restaurants and bars. The last time we went to Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Pacers home, we had to walk around bedded down homeless on the street to get to our parking lot. That's all.

Got that right.

Indy mayor and city council are to the left of Mao. City services are crap. The roads are falling apart. At war with police. Crime, and specifically murders are off the chart.

Leadership, or lack thereof with a heaping helping of woke fairy dust. Indy has gone to hell. Used to be a very nice city till the Demonrats got their claws around it.

This is the legacy of Julia Carson’s machine and her devil spawn, Andre at the helm of it.

The Elephant in everyone’s room.

FOX this morning showed a car accident, Black guy hits car and flips it, gets out and runs away. Officer gets people around the scene to flip the car and save the women trapped beneath. Why do Blacks always run away from crime scenes or when approached by an officer. This loser could have helped flip the car. This, is the Elephant in the room.

True. I’m not sure how this is going to end up. One sure thing though, this situation is going to end, but how? IMHO, It’s not going to fare well for the 13% club when the majority demands it to stop.
