Can ranchers freely kill someone caught stealing cattle?
Git a rope.
Didn’t cattle rustling used to be a capital crime.
There was a way they were dealt with before. It’s lonely out there.
Rustler’s Paradise...
It’s a big deal too, lot of dollars involved.
Just read a novel this weekend (based on a true life story) about ranching in Arizona during the Depression era. It was “Half Broke Horses” by Jeannette Walls. Decent read.
In California, it’s ok to steal a cow valued at less than $950.
If you rustle a herd one at a time, it’s legal
The whole thing could be resolved in less than an hour if they would just bring in John & Casey Dutton from “Yellowstone” with the Livestock Agents. Of course, that’s the way they’d do it on TV...
Bovine GPS
Not just for kidnapped kids anymore!
I thought right to carry laws were going to bring back the “wild west”?
Who is BUYING the rustled cows?
“Hello Jake? I need to borrow yur backhoe again.”
Thanks for posting this. I was not aware of this issue but with this lousy governor I am not surprised.
They are sold at the livestock auction for slaughter.
Brokers or they go up for auction in lots. But the issue is the brands are not being inspected as they should be before sale. And I am pretty sure it is Az law that you have to have your stock branded, even Burros if you have any. So the state is not requiring the brand inspection and recording as they are supposed to.
Laws? The gubment don’t need no stinkin laws to enforce against their kind.
I don’t think so. An average cow when buying on the hoof, rancher parlance, is double the $950.00 threshold. This isn’t being done randomly or by someone feeding their freezer. It’s an organized theft ring. IMHO.
Where do you take a cow for proper butchering? Not many can do it right anymore. We have bought all of our beef and pork from neighbors for well over a quarter century. One of their biggest obstacles is quality butchers. We’ve lost so many butchers and locker shops in the past 15 years that small ranchers sometimes have to transport the hanging meat 2 hours or more to a butcher shop for cutting and wrapping. Sad really.
It gets worse. Private investigators say there is overwhelming evidence that the cattle theft problem in Arizona is closely linked to drug trafficking. The drug cartels bragged to one detective that they and the Mafia own Arizona. He says Arizona is far more corrupt than Chicago.

One can bet that the drug money has been paid to politicians to turn a blind eye to the problem. Evidence for this is that they now attack anyone who complains about cattle theft. Corruption abounds at State and Federal levels.
The only laws the gmint has is to protect their own.
Greedy...corrupt...power drunk ..demonic..and or sociopathic narcissistic scum.
