“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

The thrust of it is that we need to teach that Santa Anna’s primary purposes in attacking the Alamo was to recapture lands illegally taken from Mexico and to free slaves. Painting Santa Anna as a Good Guy is amusing. Because the more I learn about the Goliad Massacre, the less I care for him.

I would trust what was written about the Alamo a century or more ago.Written by whom? Do you read Spanish?
I think that’s the author’s point.

I’m not going to read this. Did the article mention all the abuses the dictator Santa Ana was heaping on the people of Mexico? It wasn’t only Anglos and recent settlers who fought for independence. There were plenty of long time residents, blacks, native tribes, Spanish, French, who entered the fight. The Texicans were a diverse group.

Yes, and Mexico had a very good constitution adopted in 1824 guaranteeing federalism and democratic elections. They then proceeded to shred it like the Democrats are doing today.
It would be like a lot of modern day Texas rebelling against the feral Biden gubmint because they joined a federation of states, the overweening government of which has assumed powers bearing no relationship to the Constitution under which Texas agreed to join the union.

Did the article mention at all that Santa Anna was horribly corrupt.

>>Since then, scholars such as Randolph Campbell and Andrew Torget have demonstrated that slavery was the single issue that regularly drove a wedge between early Mexican governments—dedicated abolitionists all—and their American colonists in Texas
so the Tejanos who died at the Alamo and elsewhere were fighting to uphold slavery? How many slaves did they own?

George P. Bush has done what he could to re-cast the history of the Alamo in recent years as well.
